Lifted Spirits Distillery Opens & Other Weekend Possibilities

[Update: The Lifted Spirits Distillery announced this morning that their grand opening has been pushed back until December 2.] Based on our collective mood, new additions to the liquor cabinet are most welcome. Lifted Spirits Distillery, a new microdistillery in the Crossroads, is holding its grand opening tonight at 5 p.m. at 1734 Cherry St. The distillery, which stretches over two floors, will open with gin and vodka. They’ll also have a bar that will be experimenting with infusions. Keep an eye out for a coffee-infused vodka made with neighboring Thou Mayest coffee.

There’s another new spirit in town. Holladay Distillery has created White Dog. It’s a combination of corn, rye and barley, inspired by a recipe from 1856. Just a note, you’ll have to travel to Weston, Missouri, to get a bottle — the new spirit is only available at the distillery.

The red velvet waffles are back. Magnolia’s on the Move is chef Shanita McAfee-Bryant’s latest food venture. Her brick and mortar restaurant closed earlier this year, but McAfee-Bryant is bringing back her contemporary take on Southern cuisine. She’s also teaching a course on biscuit baking tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Flavor Trade (3000 Troost Ave.). The class is $45.

Learn to make pizza crust from the chef behind Pizzeria Locale (11875 W 95th St., #220, Overland Park, Kansas). Executive Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson will be giving a tour of the Overland Park location and sitting down for lunch with guests afterwards. The Lunch and Learn session is sponsored by Johnson County Community College’s Friends With Taste program. It costs $10, and you must register and pay online in advance.

Sip and shop at the Martin City Holiday Market tonight (4 to 8 p.m.) and tomorrow (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at the Martin Event Space (13440 Holmes Road). The free market has local makers, as well as Martin City Brewing Co. beers, cocktails and food for sale.

The Boulevard Brewing Company is hosting KC Canning Co. for its Monthly Maker Series on Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Beer Hall (2534 Madison St.). Tickets are $30 for the Thanksgiving-themed beer pairings, which range from a Michelada to pickled-beet deviled eggs to a turkey, cranberry and bread pudding.

Set your DVR. Jeff “Stretch” Rumaner, the owner of Grinders, will be making his second appearance on “Guy’s Grocery Games.” The show airs on the Food Network this Sunday at 7 p.m.

The Roasterie (1204 West 27th St.) is wrapping up its Food Truck Brunch for the season with a small-town theme this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Slater’s, The Carlsons, and SugarBaby’s Sweets will be on hand serving up pie, apple cider and savory breakfast options.
