Louisburg Cider Fest & Other Weekend Possibilities

The Louisburg Cider Mill is hosting its 39th annual Ciderfest from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. You can learn to make cider, eat cider donuts, take a hay ride, or try to beat a corn maze. The fest continues next Saturday and Sunday.
It’s not just pumpkin beer season. It’s also time for pumpkin patches. The Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch (650 N. Jefferson St., Kearney, Missouri) opened last weekend, and they’re ready to welcome you to fall with a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, pumpkin donuts, cider and s’mores.

I’ve hit this drum before, and I’ll do it again. The Plaza Art Fair, which runs through Sunday, is really a food festival that also happens to have art. Keep an eye out for The Capital Grille’s steak sandwich, Classic Cup’s short rib sliders, Rye’s truffle bacon popcorn and Parkway: Social Kitchen’s tater tots.
Get out your lederhosen, it’s time for Oktoberfest. Lee’s Summit Oktoberfest is tonight (5 to 11 p.m.) and tomorrow (10 a.m. to 11 p.m.) in the historic downtown. They’ll have schnitzel, saurbraten (German pot roast), German potato salad, a stein hoisting competition, beer garden, craft fair, carnival and homebrew competition.
The Overland Park Fall Festival is Saturday at Santa Fe Commons Park (8045 Santa Fe Drive). The Farmers’ Market opens at 7 a.m., with an arts and craft fair beginning at 9 a.m. They’ll have live acts, including The Elders, as well as puppet and magic shows. Food trucks will be on hand and the Culinary Center of Kansas City is hosting a bake sale to benefit No Kid Hungry. You can also get a preview of a new brewery in the works: Limitless Brewing.
Lenexa City Center is hosting a Food Truck Frenzy with more than 20 food trucks from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday on the Lenexa Civic Campus (17101 W. 87th St. Pkwy, Lenexa, Kansas). They’ll have live music, fireworks and face painting.
Dive into Indian cuisine at the Indian Street Food Festival. The event, put on by Loka Wellness and the Olive Tree at Hawthorne Plaza (11100 W. 122nd Terrace, Overland Park, Kansas), is from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It’s a benefit for hurricane victims with all of the proceeds donated to the American Red Cross. It’s a suggested minimum donation of $20.
