Oh the Cubanity, a night of Cuban cuisine and dancing, is at the City Market (20 E 5th St.) tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. The celebration of Cuban culture is being put on by The Bite, Taste of Brazil, and Cubanos Por Kansas City. They’ll have live music and dishes inspired by traditional Cuban cuisine: chicarones (crispy pork belly), arroz con pollo (chicken and rice), and tostones con queso y bacon (fried green plantains with cheese and bacon).

The tea room in Andre’s Confisserie Suisse (5018 Main St.) has reopened with a new look. It’s a bright open space with light wood and pictures of Swiss landscapes on the walls. They also added a coffee bar to work in concert with the wine bar that was part of a 2014 makeover.
Leinenkugel’s KC is hosting Oktoberfest Live! with German food, beer specials, and wiener dog races at noon Saturday in the Kansas City Power & Light District. Brewery Emperial (1829 Oak St.) is hosting its own Oktoberfest celebration on 11 a.m. Saturday with commemorative steins. Lederhosen is encouraged.
Papa Keno’s Pizzeria (1815 Wyandotte St.) has opened in the former Snow & Co. space in the Crossroads. They sell pizza by the slice and whole pies (as well as a gluten free pie), salads, sandwiches, calzones, and breadsticks.

Why eat crepes just one day? That’s what French Market (6947 Tomahawk Road, Prairie Village, Kansas) must be thinking. They’ve extended their Saturday crepe special. The crepes are now available from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. We’re talking sweet and savory crepes made-to-order (salted butter, Nutella with marshmallow or egg and Swiss are a good place to start), as well as a gluten-free buckwheat option.
Meyer Fest is Saturday at St. Peter’s (815 Meyer Blvd). There’s a family-friendly carnival from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a block party from 6 to 11 p.m. (18 years and older are welcome). The block party will have a performance by The Zeros, with food trucks, and Kansas City Bier Co. beer for sale.
Linden Square in downtown Gladstone, Missouri, is hosting a Whiskey Fest from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. There will be live acts, including Outlaw Jim & The Whiskey Benders, as well as whiskey sampling (you can purchase tickets or an unlimited option) and food trucks (American Fusion).
WaterFire returns to Bush Creek on the Country Club Plaza on Saturday at dusk. Lit braziers will sit just above the water in the creek, there will be performances from Quixotic and the StoneLion Puppet Theatre, and you can grab food and drinks from stands run by Zocalo, Seasons 52, or Capital Grille. WaterFire goes on until 10 p.m.
