Downtown Lawrence Restaurant Week & Other Weekend Possibilities

Two restaurant weeks, one weekend. Whatever will you do? The answer is eat out. A lot. Kansas City Restaurant Week — more than 180 restaurants with $15 prix fixe lunches and $33 dinners — continues through this Sunday. Downtown Lawrence Restaurant Week debuts today and runs through next Saturday, Jan. 28. Twenty-two Lawrence, Kansas, restaurants will have special menus for restaurant week, including fish and chips at Lucia, chicken confit pizza at Limestone and smoked brisket gyoza dumplings at Ramen Bowls.
Crows Coffee Waldo (7440 Washington St.) will be hosting The Meat Shed for a pop-up on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. They’ll have samples and charcuterie, as well as roasts, sausages and rillettes. You can pair said meats with coffee, wine or cocktails, as Crows Coffee recently added a liquor license.
And speaking of pop-ups, Julia Marie’s Doughnuts is popping up at 546 Olive St. on Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. Snag a donut for $2 — coffee and juice are free.
Protein House — a grab-and-go concept out of Las Vegas — has opened at 1345 Main St. They’ve got smoothies, juices, bowls, teas and coffee. It’s open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Calibration Brewery (119 North Armour Road, North Kansas City, Missouri) just released a Barleywine that is 11 percent alcohol by volume. New brewer Jack Owen describes it as “very complex with a lot of malt character.” Former Calibration brewer Pat Sandman is now a shift brewer at the Boulevard Brewing Company. Owen also says to keep an eye out for cider — traditional coming soon, and fruit ciders later.
Ronnie’s Restaurant (12812 W. 87th St, Lenexa, Kansas), a brother restaurant to Kate’s Kitchen, is now open. They do breakfast (scrambles, pancakes, omelets) and lunch (turkey clubs, pork tenderloins, wraps, chicken tenders). It’s a new take on an old school diner.
Crane Brewing Company’s taproom (6515 Railroad St., Raytown, Missouri) now has barbecue from Greg-Co BBQ, a food truck based out of Raytown. In addition to the standards (pulled pork and brisket), they’re also slinging walking chili pie and smoked mac and cheese.
