Pawn & Pint Celebrates Festivus & Other Weekend Possibilities

Made in Kansas City, a local retailer, has opened a coffee shop with a dash of retail inside. The Made in KC Cafe (1114 Baltimore Ave.) debuted last week. It’s using Messenger Coffee for espresso and plans to rotate other coffees behind the bar. On the weekends, it’s offering a special — Cafe au Oui — a cereal milk latte, wherein they let cereal steep in oat milk for two days before removing the cereal and brewing the drink. A taproom is also in the works for the same space.

Splitlog Coffee Co. (548 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kansas) is open slightly later and if it still has a bag of Ethiopian coffee from Four Barrel Coffee, grab it as a gift to yourself. It opens at 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday. The Strawberry Hill shop now closes at 5 p.m. six days a week.

Blip Coffee Roasters (1101 Mulberry) is hosting an Xmas Party from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday in the West Bottoms. Meanwhile, the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (101 E. 13th St.) wants you to dress in your ugliest best. The beer bar is hosting an Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Chicago-style hot dogs. Italian beef. The greatest hits of the Windy City are on the menu at Chi-Town Original (12210 W 135th St., Overland Park, Kansas). It’s also serving Polish sausage and breakfast on the weekends (consider the Mike Ditka Breakfast Sandwich, which has grilled Polish sausage, eggs, caramelized onions, and American cheese on a sourdough muffin). Chi-Town is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

A little whiskey can help make seasons bright. S.D. Strong Distilling has a new spirit: Big Boom Bourbon. Aged in white oak barrels for close to three years, this marks the first bourbon for the Parkville distillery. It also make vodka, gin, and rye whiskey.

If prosperity is a chicken and a pot in every home, why not kill both birds with one stop at the Chicken & Pots pop-up in Lawrence, Kansas. Purchase stewing hens from Sweet Love Farm and tableware from Hankware Pots. The pop-up will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday in potter Mike Crouch’s home gallery, 408 Lincoln St., Lawrence.

Pawn & Pint (613 Walnut St.) is hosting an Airing of the Grievances from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the occasion of Festivus, the holiday created by Seinfeld. There’ll be a traditional, unadorned aluminum pole in honor of the holiday created 20 years ago.

You can never have enough brunch options in this world. Cafe Sebastienne, inside the Kemper Museum of Modern Art, has added another day for brunch. It now serves brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Need guidance? Consider the sourdough French toast with Burger’s bacon or the Kobe corned beef hash.

If you feel like having another brunch spot in your pocket, recordBar (1520 Grand Boulevard) is serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The kid in you will appreciate the tater tot scramble, while grown up you can revel in chicken and waffles or biscuits and chorizo gravy.
