Everyone should hang out with baby animals now and again. The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame (630 North 126th Street, Bonner Springs, Kansas) is hosting a Barnyard Babies Family Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet a few animals, check out some tractors, and learn how to milk a cow. Tickets are $5, but each adult ticket purchase comes with a free child admission (children under 2 years old are free regardless).

The food trucks are rolling again and that means you’ve got plenty of choices when it comes to dining al fresco. The Union Cemetery Historical Society hosts Food Truck Friday at Union Cemetery (227 East 28th Terrace) from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today. KC Pinoy, Werner’s, Pita For Good, and CoffeeCakeKC will all be on hand. On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can check out Food Truck Face Off: Wing War, a food truck battle put on by The Business of Food Trucks and hosted by Rock & Run Brewery (115 W Washington Street, Kearney, Missouri). Tickets range from $27 to $35 and include wings tastings and two beers.
MOD Pizza (1112 NE Coronado Drive, Blue Springs, Missouri), a concept out of Seattle, Washington, is holding its grand opening on Saturday. From 12 to 8 p.m., MOD will be donating all of the sales to the Drumm Farm Center for Children. Their standard pie is 11-inches and you can choose from over 30 different toppings. They do have gluten-free crust available.
Whether you’re looking to start your own garden or just fill up your fridge with local meat, cheese, and eggs, there’s a farmers’ market for that. The Brookside Farmers’ Market (63rd and Wornall) debuted last weekend with plenty of greens, radishes, bison, and juices from Simple Science Juices. It’s open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cultivate Kansas City is hosting a transplant sale at Gibbs Farm Road (4223 Gibbs Road, Kansas City, Kansas) on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with herbs and heirloom tomatoes available.
Tickets for the Green Dirt Farm dinner series — a summer-long collection of area name chefs doing dynamic things with sheep’s cheese in a rustic setting — go on sale this Saturday. The tickets usually sell out the day that ticketing opens, so plan accordingly.
Discover the rich heritage of beer across the Midwest with author and Flatland contributor Pete Dulin. Dulin will be giving a talk, Kansas City Beer: A History of Brewing in The Heartland, at the central branch (14 W 10th Street) of the Kansas City Public Library. The free event is this Sunday at 2 p.m.
