Farmer/Veteran explores the idea of what happens you come home and try to make a life on the farm. The latest Indie Lens Pop-Up from KCPT features the documentary about Alex Sutton, a veteran in North Carolina trying to make it as a farmer. The screening, along with a discussion with the film’s director Jeremy Lange and representatives from the Farmer Veteran Coalition, is at the Plaza branch (4801 Main Street) of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. The doors open around 1 p.m. and local farmer veterans will be selling produce at a pop-up farm stand.

The Roasterie opens its newest cafe today at Corrigan Station (1828 Walnut Street). It’s been a busy year for the local coffee roaster. Earlier this spring they added a drive through to their headquarters and cafe at 1204 W 27th Street.
The Midwest Pottery Fest is tonight through Sunday at KC Urban Potters (4 Westport Road). They’ll have a Klezmer band, coffee from Oddly Correct, and demonstrations and talks from local and national potters.
How about a little pastry and shopping? The Johnson County Community College’s Hospitality and Culinary Academy (12345 College Boulevard, Overland Park, Kansas) hosts a KC Collaboration pop-up on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Grab samples from students in the culinary school and then check out locally made clothing, jewelry, and accessories.
You can once again play follow the food truck this weekend. Chicken N Pickle (1761 Burlington, North Kansas City, Missouri) hosts a Mother Truckin’ Brunch on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with CoffeeCakeKC, Magnolias on the Move, and KC Pinoy. Get Magnolia’s red velvet waffles.

The Hello Kitty Cafe food truck will also be passing through town Saturday. It will be at Town Center Plaza (5000 W 119th Street, Leawood, Kansas) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Downtown Overland Park hosts Dine + Discover on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. The Taste of Brazil’s food truck will be on hand, along with The Waffler and Kona Ice.
Snow & Company has moved from the Crossroads to Westport. Their new spot at 412 Westport Road, the former home of The Union, is now open. The artisan frozen cocktail bar has a patio in the new space.
