Tap List | Kansas City Royals to Host Brews & Barrels Beer Event

If you’ve ever been to a Kansas City Royals game, you know they are dedicated to the craft beer scene. From a sponsorship with Boulevard Brewing Co. to a section called Crafts & Drafts that’s dedicated to craft beer, you can find lots of high quality suds.

The Royals are about to introduce even more craft beer to their fanbase. On Aug. 26, Kauffman Stadium will host an Oktoberfest-style event. Brews & Barrels will feature more than 40 different beers.

Each theme night ticket will come with two wristbands that can be used for the event. Each wristband allows you to sample 10 different beers of your choosing. You’ll also be able to enjoy authentic German food such as pretzel bites and brats. Soda and water also will be available.

The event starts at 4:30 p.m. in the Hall of Fame tent located in the outfield with beers flowing until first pitch. Come for the beer and stay to watch the Royals take on the San Diego Padres!  

Beer Releases

Transport Brewery — 11113 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — just released this year’s version of Ales for ALS. The series started back in 2013 and is brewed nationwide to help raise awareness and funds for ALS. This year’s beer is a 7% ABV hazy IPA with Ahtanum, Ekuanot Loral, Citra and HBC hop blends. Transport will be donating $1 of every draft and four-pack sold to ALS research.

Cinder Block Brewery — 110 E. 18th Ave., North Kansas City, Missouri — released its latest beer, a tropical IPA called Urban Island. This beer was inspired by the classic Dole Whip dessert from Hawaii. Urban Island uses lots of Sultana and Citra hops to give it those tropical notes. The beer comes in at 7.2% ABV and 30 IBU.

3Halves Brewing Co. — 110 E. Kansas St., Liberty, Missouri — put out Far South, which is a 7.2% ABV IPA. This one uses tons of Nelson Sauvin and Amarillo hops. This hop blend leads to a unique profile of white wine, grapefruit, melon and mango. It’s got a bright, airy mouthfeel with some lingering bitterness but not overwhelmingly so.

City Barrel — 1740 Holmes St., Kansas City, Missouri — is going back to the future with their newest beer. 80s Time Machine is a hazy IPA clocking in at 6.6% ABV. The beer uses a ton of Mosaic hops to help give it lots of sweet fruit, blueberry and citrus notes.

Strange Days Brewing — 316 Oak St., Kansas City, Missouri — brought back a fan favorite, Memory Hole. Hopped with Mosaic and Sabro Cryo, this 5.4% ABV pale ale is packed with juicy flavors. This well-balanced ale will give you flavors of pineapple and coconut rounded out by a sweet malt backbone.

Beer Events

Saturday, Aug. 20

Servaes Brewing Co. — 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — is throwing a fun Tiki Party to celebrate the release of four new beers. Each of the beers will be tiki-themed. To add to the fun, Relativity Cooking and Sugarfold macaron will both be doing a pop-up. Relativity will be serving up tiki-inspired dishes such as Teriyaki tofu and Kalua pulled jackfruit.

Lost Evenings Brewing Co. — 8625 Hauser Court, Lenexa, Kansas — has teamed up with InFit KC to put on a Yoga & Beer event. The one hour yoga class is open to all skill levels from beginners to experts. The class will take place prior to the brewery opening. Once it’s over, you’ll have 30 minutes before the brewery opens to the public to enjoy a free beer. Tickets run $25 and include that first beer.

Pathlight Brewing — 11200 W. 75th St., Shawnee, Kansas — is throwing a Hawaiian Luau to celebrate the release of Honu, a Hawaiian-inspired rice lager. Point & Flat BBQ will be serving up delicious brisket, Hawaiian-style pulled pork, and more. If you need a sweet treat you’ll also be able to purchase authentic Hawaiian Shaved Ice from Taste of Aloha.

Dog Days of Summer Craft Beer Crawl — Downtown Liberty, Liberty, Missouri — is taking place in downtown Liberty for its 11th year. The event will allow you to sample more than 20 craft beers from various spots around downtown Liberty including 3Halves Brewing Co. The tickets cost $30 and include a sampling glass, wristband, map and food stops. Sampling will run from 1-5 p.m. and will take place rain or shine.

Sunday, Aug. 21

Crane Brewing Co. — 6515 Railroad St., Raytown, Missouri — is hosting another one of their Sip & Shop events at their taproom. If you’ve never been to one of these events, they host a pop-up shop for various local vendors. This month you’ll be able to shop and purchase wares from Julia’s Jewels, Shop Craft Kelly, Helianthus Books, Great Scot Soapery, Good Vibes Apothecary and Meek’s Treats Co.
