Tap List | Confronting Conformity

November 12, 2019  |    |  4 min read

I’m the guy wearing a t-shirt in subzero temperatures, the guy ordering mozzarella sticks at a burger joint, the guy at the holiday party wearing a Hawaiian shirt, drinking his favorite IPA. I know it’s your party, Tom, but stop offering me “seasonal” beverages. Didn’t you hear? I’m a dyed-in-the-wool nonconformist! I’ll drink a stout when I’m good and ready. Wait. Is that a limited edition stout brewed with coffee beans? It’s the last one, and you’re offering it to me? What are you waiting for? Fill her up!

What better way to combat conformity than by partying like it’s 1999 in 2019? Taps on Main, 1715 Main St. in Kansas City, is hosting ‘90s Night at Taps on Saturday from 9 p.m to 12 a.m., which means 40 delicious beers will be on tap and, yes, Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” probably will be playing in the background.

Tap Notes

Ever made a pot of coffee only to forget about it and return to it midday? Well, imagine that the pot was magically transformed by a beer wizard into a brown ale. That is exactly what you should expect from Martin City Brewing Co.’s Estrada De Terra Brown Ale (5.7% ABV, 35 IBU).

Martin City Brewing Co. collaborated with Alchemy Coffee (Lawrence, Kansas) to deliver The Alchemy Coffee Stout (6.3% ABV, 50 IBU), a delicious stout with notes of milk chocolate on the front end, and espresso beans on the finish.

Boulevard Brewing Co.’s Lickable Wallpaper – Sour Saison Ale (8.1% ABV, 8 IBU) is part of its First Fridays Collection. This sour will slap you square in the face with notes of grapefruit, wine and boysenberry!

4 Hands Brewing Co.’s Warped Perception Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA (6.5% ABV, No IBU) is an ode to the God of Hops. This IPA has a hoppy-citrusy aroma, with strong notes of grapefruit and sugar cane.

Boulevard Brewing Co. released its Plaid Habit Canadian Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Brown Ale (12.5% ABV, 13 IBU). This beer is special for a number of reasons. First, it reminds me of my favorite Mexican, caramelized coconut candy. Second, it’s a powerhouse of flavors such as maple, coconut, caramel and sugar cane! Plaid Habit is die hard.
