Platte County Fair & Other Weekend Possibilities

July 22, 2016  |  Jonathan Bender  |  2 min read

It’s fair season. Now, let’s go ahead and see how much fried food we can eat. The Platte County Fair (15730 Fairgrounds Road, Tracy, Missouri) is open through Saturday. You can try your hand at milking a wooden cow, watch a tractor pull or visit the Overflow Saloon — opt for the Tallgrass Pub Ale. Tickets are $10 ($15 on Saturday) and children under 12 years old are free.

Take a tour of Filipino cuisine with a Taste of the Philippines at the Filipino Culture Center (9810 W 79th St., Overland Park, Kansas) from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Food sample tickets for the five regional cuisine booths are $5 each or 5 for $20.

Chipotle’s Cultivate Festival returns to Kansas City for a second year this weekend. The festival is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday in Penn Valley Park and includes live bands (Atlas Genius, The Mowglis), plenty of chef talent (from Andrew Zimmern to Carla Hall) doing live demonstrations, as well as lots of eats (ShopHouse, Poppy’s) and drinks (more than a dozen local brews) options.

Treats Unleashed (4209 W 119th St., Leawood, Kansas) is holding an ice cream social for…wait for it…dogs. From 12 to 2 p.m. this Saturday, they’ll be dishing up doggie sundaes topped with rainbow sprinkles, bacon bits, dried cranberries and bone crumbles.

Get geared up with Kansas City flair at the sixth annual Summer Swing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Alexander Majors House (8201 State Line Road). There will be more than 95 vintage and handmade vendors at the indie craft fair, along with food trucks (CoffeeCake KC, Werner’s on Wheels and Sweet Caroline’s Ice Box).

Double Shift Brewing Company (412 E 18th St.) celebrates its first anniversary from 12 to 11 p.m. on Saturday. They’re having a parking lot party with food trucks, yard games, and bottle and special brew releases.

Look out, folks, Gladstone is throwing a block party tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be live tunes (including Victor & Penny), along with food trucks (KC Pinoy) and frozen drinks from Snow & Company at the Linden Square Block Party (602 NE 70th St., Gladstone, Missouri).
