Just like a friend with a pick-up truck, mezcal is a spirit you should know. Sample mezcal from Bozal, a small-batch Mexican distillery, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mitch e Amaro (306 Armour Road, North Kansas City, Missouri), a new spot with a built-in bar dedicated to spirits from independent producers and cocktail ingredients.

While you’re there, take the five minute drive to Queen Sweets and Bakery (4107 N. Cherry St.) for dinner. Chef Kay Bataineh has a deft hand with Jordanian and Lebanese food. Whether you order kabobs or falafel, you’ll be excited when the food arrives. Save room for dessert, particularly the basbousa, a coconut and semolina cake. Queen Sweets and Bakery is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Ragazza opened last week at 4301 Main St. The modern Italian restaurant moved from Westport and will be open from Tuesday through Saturday for dinner and Sunday for brunch. Ragazza will add lunch in the coming months. Get the meatball.

Dive into the world of mushroom growing with a class at The Farm School at Gibbs Road (4233 Gibbs Road, Kansas City, Kansas). Mushroom grower Jacob Chapman will talk about how to grow and sustain different varieties of mushrooms at noon on Friday. It’s $15 and RSVP is recommended.

Thinking about joining a community supported agriculture program or buying your meat locally but don’t know where to start? KC Food Circle’s 21st annual Eat Local & Organic Expo is a good place to start. The event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Johnson County Community College (12345 College Blvd., Overland Park, Kansas), connects people at all points of the food chain. Meet farmers, find some starters for your garden or get a directory of organic growers.

Making chocolate is a test in patience. Get a bit of guidance before you step up to the stove with For the Love of Chocolate, a class ($60) with chef Courtney Wright from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Culinary Center of Kansas City (7920 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas). Learn how to temper and mold chocolate and use it as an ingredient.

Everybody needs someone in their lives that can hand them a glass of wine and a plate of Girl Scout cookies. Amigoni Winery (1505 Genessee St.) and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri are hosting a Girl Scout cookie and wine pairing from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the West Bottoms. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

You’ve already taken care of the wine and Girl Scout cookies part of your diet. Let’s go ahead and make sure it’s balanced with a donut and beer pairing. Marrio’s Donut Shop will be at Limitless Brewing Co. (9765 Widmer, Lenexa, Kansas) starting at 1 p.m. Sunday.
