August 1, 2019  |  Clarence Dennis  |  3 min read

Get your weekend started off right with the penultimate WeekEnder Series event at Crown Center Square (2450 Grand Blvd., KCMO). Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, the late-summer fun rolls on with music from KC cover band The Zeros, followed by a screening of “The Wizard of Oz.” Grab a bite from the Between 2 Buns and Estrella Azul food trucks and then a treat from Kona Ice. Admission is free and no pets or alcohol are permitted.

First Fridays foodies might enjoy the Rime Buddhist Center’s (700 W Pennway St., KCMO) Tibetan Cooking Class, scheduled for Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m. Instructor Ven. Geshe Tsewang Thinley will lead participants in making Tibetan momos (steamed dumplings). The class is $30 and limited to 10 spots, you can register online.

Make your way over to The Phoenix (302 W. 8th St, KCMO) Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a free Jazz Brunch for those 21 and older. Pair Chef Silvey’s breakfast with a $7 bloody mary from the build-your-own bloody bar, kick back and enjoy the morning’s tunes.

Lidia’s Kansas City and The Roasterie are teaming up to serve a flight-style brunch pop up. on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Factory Cafe (1204 W 27th St, KCMO). Select Lidia’s brunch menu items will be paired with some of Kansas City’s best cups of coffee. Enjoy Espresso Rubbed Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Aioli and Giardinara paired with the single origin Brazil Fazenda Lagoa and more. The tasting costs $5.

If jazz brunch or Lidia’s pop-up fail to tickle your between breakfast and lunch fancy, then perhaps a round on the (mini) links? Join The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s Young Friends of Art (4525 Oak St, KCMO) for Mimosas & Mulligans: A Boozy Brunch on Art Course this Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy specialty beer and cocktails, brunch and a round of mini-golf on the lawn, dressed in your golf course best. Tickets are $40 for Young Friends of Art members, $50 for non-members.

Rise and Shine for Chicken N Pickle’s (1761 Burlington St, North Kansas City) free Sunday Yoga session from 9 to 10 a.m. North Kansas City’s outdoor/indoor entertainment and restaurant concept features pickleball courts, as well as a variety of lawn games. The kitchen cooks up rotisserie chicken, bird between buns, plenty of burger options, plus a range of healthy menu items like the new $9 Powerbowl. Bring your own mat along with an appetite because brunch rolls out when the mats roll up.

Wrap up the weekend with Paint Night: Blossoming Breeze at Brew Lab in Overland Park (7295 Marty St). Grab a friend, a cold one or two, and paint your masterpiece with the instruction of a talented artist. No supplies or previous experience in painting required. The event is for participants 21 and older. Secure your spot for $35.
