Weekend Possibilities | Worlds of Fun, Kansas City Zoo and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Reopen

A few Kansas City staples are back in business with pandemic guidelines in place as summer is now officially underway. For those who still don’t feel quite comfortable getting out and about, curbside wine pickup might be the way to go.
Friday, June 26
Noon – 8 p.m. If you want wine, but don’t feel like leaving the house, swing by KC Wine Co., 13875 S. Gardner Road, Olathe, Kansas, for quick curbside service and beat the retreat to your humble abode. It’s a pretty seamless process. Scroll the winery’s selection of bottles, wine coolers, ciders and colorful slush growlers online ahead of time, place an order and pick it up. Be sure to stock up.
6 p.m. MerleJam, an annual fundraiser concert at Knuckleheads, 2715 Rochester Ave., Kansas City, Missouri, will feature performances by seven local artists. Tickets to see Atlantic Express, 4 Fried Chickens & A Coke and The Culprits, among others, are $20. Proceeds will assist pre- and post-operative heart transplant patients and their families. MerleJam is for those 21 and older.
7 – 10 p.m. The Friday night concert series at Stone Pillar Vineyard and Winery in Olathe, 11000 S. Woodland St., rolls on with a set from Kansas City trio Chasing Grace. Grab a glass of wine or cider and peruse tasty food truck menus from El Tenedor and Monks. Tickets for those 21 and up are $5 at the gate — card only.
Saturday, June 27
9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Kansas City’s penguins have had their quarantine fun and are back to doing penguin things before smiling faces in their Swope Park habitat. Aside from a few indoor exhibits, the Kansas City Zoo, 6800 Zoo Drive, is reopened and welcoming visitors, who are asked to make reservations ahead of time. Adult general admission tickets are $18, youth/senior tickets are $16.
11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Rides are back up and running for a later-than-planned grand opening weekend for Worlds of Fun, 4545 Worlds of Fun Ave., Kansas City, Missouri. The theme park is requiring face coverings for all park visitors, pre-registration, health screenings and temperature checks. Hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the park. Tickets start at $39.99.
Sunday, June 28
Noon – 4 p.m. The Negro League Baseball Museum, 1616 E. 18th St., Kansas City, Missouri, recently reopened its doors in the historic 18th & Vine District. The national museum that pays tribute to baseball’s unsung heroes is welcoming guests with social distancing guidelines in place as the Negro League celebrates its centennial. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $6 for youths.
2 – 5 p.m. Kreeayt Art Studio, 710 W Main St., Blue Springs, Missouri, is teaming up with Missouri Puppy Mill Rescue for an afternoon of painting for a good cause. Bring a picture of your four-legged friend and Kreeayt will provide the supplies to dream up a pop art masterpiece of your pet, with a portion of proceeds going to the puppy mill rescue. Social distancing measures will be observed. The session is $45 and BYOB.
9:20 p.m. Forget Netflix for the night and head to Boulevard Drive-In, 1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, Kansas, for a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Operating at half-capacity, Boulevard is filling the movie theater void while checking social distancing boxes and showing nothing but the classics. Admission is $10, kids under the age of 11 get in for free.
