Weekend Possibilities | Winter Magic, Leftover Spookies and KC’s Largest Street Art Gallery

Happy holidays — whichever you choose to celebrate. November’s first weekend welcomes a few leftover haunts, early light displays, virtual live music and more.

Friday, Nov. 6

2 – 9 p.m. The largest street art gallery in Kansas City will open for First Friday. Only a few months old, Graffiti Attic is located in the attic of Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Road, and is free of charge. Donations are encouraged.

5 – 11 p.m. Ready to turn the page to Christmas? Winter Magic by Kansas City Parks and Recreation is one step ahead of you. Schedule a time to drive through the Winter Magic light display, 7332 Oakwood Drive, and take in intricate holiday light displays, including the longest animated light tunnel in the Midwest. Tickets start at $20.

6 p.m. If you’re sticking with spooky season, check out Zombie Purge this weekend at Lakeside Speedway, 5615 Wolcott Drive in Kansas City, Kansas. In addition to the Terror Trail and Crazy Clown Funhouse, guests will have the chance to hunt zombies with paintball guns from a 14-foot tall Zombie Purge Monster Bus. Ticket prices and packages vary.

Saturday, Nov. 7

3 p.m. There’s a Wicked Wine Walk this weekend at Kansas City Power & Light District, 1330 Grand Blvd. Expect live music, wine tastings and pairings along 14th Street downtown — all with social distancing and PPE requirements in place. Those 21 and older will receive a souvenir tasting glass, tasting opportunities, a small plate at each of the six participating venues and more. Tickets are $40.

7 p.m. Apocalypse Meow is going virtual in 2020, but you can still watch from the couch. The fundraiser concert, benefiting Abby’s Fund for Musicians’ Health Care, will stream live and for free from Lemonade Park and include performances by Alejandro Escovedo, Jon Dee Graham, Roman Numerals, Kadesh Flow and more.

7 – 11:30 p.m. Whiskey lovers unite. The Weston Whiskey Festival will bring whiskeys from all over the world to the Weston Burley House, 357 Main St., for a day of tastings, plus cigar pairings, courtesy of Weston Tobacco. General admission tickets start at $40. A VIP package is available for $60.

5 – 7 p.m. Virtual Brew & Chew, an interactive beer experience, is coming to a computer near you. Purchase a ticket and you’ll be able to pick up a case of 10 craft beers from Mike’s Wine & Spirits locations across the metro. The event will feature guided tastings from local breweries, live music and more. Tickets are $38.

Sunday, Nov. 8

10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Hot coffee or tea, yoga and cats might just be three of your favorite things. If that’s the case, Yoga with Cats at Whiskers Cat Cafe, 3705 S.W. Trafficway, should make the perfect Sunday morning. The 75-minute reservation includes an hour-long yoga session, a coffee or tea on the house, plus 15 minutes of kitten time. Tickets are $20.

11:30 a.m. The defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium and Red Crow Brewing Company is inviting fans to watch from its taproom and patio in Olathe, 1062 W. Santa Fe St. The Casual Foodie truck will be onsite to fill stomachs. An up-to-date beer list can be found on Red Crow’s Facebook page.
