Weekend Possibilities | Tech N9ne Livestream, Christkindlmarkt at The Campground, plus BBQ, Beer & Football

You can still count on some things in Kansas City during December, even in a whacked out year like 2020. Holiday light displays are popping up all over and another Chiefs postseason run is right around the corner.

Here’s what’s on deck this weekend.

Friday, Dec. 11

5 – 11 p.m. Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, 13800 Switzer Road in Overland Park, is in the holiday spirit. Pull up to the Deanna Rose parking lot, flip off the headlights and tune in to 90.5 Rose FM for Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane, a light show synched to your favorite holiday music. The light display is visible from the farmstead’s main parking lot. The free show runs through Jan. 7.

5 – 10 p.m. Swing by The Campground, 1531 Gennessee St., for Christkindlmarkt’s fireside food, hot drinks and a selection of local gifts. The holiday setup is outdoors only, but menu items like the Cheese & Charcuterie Platter, S’mores Kit and Chicken Pot Pie are also available for pre-order or takeout. The Campground will be strictly enforcing social distancing. Be sure to wear a mask.

9 p.m. Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne is streaming worldwide, for any fans of hip hop out there missing live music. The second edition of K.O.D. 2020 will feature performances with Krizz Kaliko and special guests Joey Cool and Jehry Robinson. Tickets for the stream are $20.

Saturday, Dec. 12

11 a.m. Brewery Emperial, 1829 Oak St., is calling bike and beer enthusiasts to “spread the Santa spirit” at the 2020 Totally Responsible Socially Distant Santa Rampage. Do your best impression of the big man and hop on the bike for small group rides around the metro, while cold beer waits on tap back at Emperial. There should be plenty of room to spread out on the outdoor patio. The event is for those 21 and older.

2 – 3:30 p.m. Rye Plaza, 4646 Mill Creek Pkwy., is pulling back the curtain for anyone obsessed with the bistro’s cinnamon rolls. Sign up for Saturday’s Cinnamon Roll Class with Rye Plaza’s pastry chef. Attendees will get all the tips and tricks behind baking the perfect cinnamon rolls, plus a dozen mini rolls with cream cheese icing to take home. Face masks are required. Tickets are $75.

8 – 9:30 p.m. You can’t really beat free, online live music as the temperatures drop. Tune in Saturday evening for Millie Edwards Trio live from Union Station. The Kansas City jazz and blues trio will play their holiday hits while you sit back and enjoy the show from home. The concert will stream from the Union Station Kansas City Facebook page.

Sunday, Dec. 13

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Forget the cold, Brunch at the Lenexa Public Market, 8750 Penrose Lane, is worth it. Make plans to munch on brunch plates from merchants up and down the marketplace while live jazz plays in the background. Mimosas will be available from Topp’d Pizza — in case you were wondering. Be sure to check online for the full menu and participating merchants.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. If you need a mini Sunday getaway, make the trip to Excelsior Springs for the Hall of Trees display at the historic Hall of Waters Water Bar, 201 E. Broadway St. The display includes more than 30 decorated trees by local businesses, civic groups and friends. Be sure to vote for your favorite tree before heading home.

11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Chiefs will return to Miami this weekend to take on the Dolphins as Patrick Mahomes and Co. battle for the top spot in the AFC. Lucky for you, 3 Halves Brewing Co. and Jousting Pigs BBQ will be there when it comes to BBQ, Beer & Football. Be at 110 E. Kansas St. in Liberty for the noon kickoff to get a table and settle in with $2 off 20-ounce Civic Duty and Desert Gold pours during the game. Jousting Pigs will have its entire menu available, plus the Wasp Burger special and gameday catering for 15 or more people.
