Weekend Possibilities | Royals Welcome Fans, Competitive Rocket League and Sporting KC’s Egg Scramble

The Royals start the 2021 campaign this weekend at Kauffman Stadium and you’re invited.

Limited-capacity Royals games, concert livestreams and Easter eggs are in the cards for April’s opening weekend. Just be sure to wear a mask.

Friday, April 2

6 – 11 p.m. The second season at Lemonade Park, 1628 Wyoming St., kicks off Friday with Men of Men, Various Blonde and DJ Cyan. The West Bottoms outdoor dining, live music and arts venue by recordBar is back with socially-distant seating and table reservation options for groups. Tickets start at $5.

7:30 p.m. How many times have you seen the entire ‘Friends’ series? Put your television knowledge to the test Friday night at Outfield Beer Company in Edwardsville, 10953 Kaw Dr. Though, Friends Trivia Night is just one reason to check out the baseball-themed microbrewery. With eight beers on tap and guest brews in the rotation as well, Outfield also makes a solid spot to watch the boys in blue.

7 – 9 p.m. Driftwood Ceramics and The Brewkery have plans for a Collaboration Class at the North Kansas City studio, 2106 Swift St. Join the class to learn how to make a hand-crafted mug using hand-building techniques. The class will also feature kombucha tasting samples from the Brewkery. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic samples will be available. Reserve your spot for $45.

Saturday, April 3

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sporting Kansas City is putting on an Easter egg hunt like none other. Sign your kiddos up for the Egg Scramble at Children’s Mercy Park, 1 Sporting Way. Children ages 3-14 will go on an hour-long Easter egg hunt throughout the home of SKC. Kids will also have the chance to take photos with the Easter bunny and win some sweet Sporting prizes. Registration is $20 per child.

6 p.m. Kansas City Esports, 1800 Genessee St., kicks off its Rocket League Platinum League this weekend. Think you or someone you know might have what it takes to take home the cash prize? Gamers should register for the three-month league, featuring three tournaments by Saturday’s season-opening play. Players must be age 10 or older to play, minors must provide a signed waiver. Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch and PC competitors are all welcome. Registration is $65.

9 p.m. Fans of Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne should be treated to a one-of-a-kind performance with Saturday night’s The Rare, The Raw, The Real livestream event. Performing with a full live band, Tech has plans to jump around his entire catalog while sharing stories and notes about the creation of each track. Special guest MAYDAY! Will open. Tickets are $20.

9 p.m. Even if it was just a phase, put on some black and head to The Riot Room, 4048 Broadway, for Saturday night’s 80s Goth Dance Party. Wallet chains, baggy pants and platform boots will move to new wave, goth, punk and industrial beats from DJ Rico Spins. Tickets are $5 at the door for those 21 and up. Masks are required.

Sunday, April 4

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Camp Bow Wow, 1010 SE Hambien Rd., Lee’s Summit’s doggy day and overnight camp, is celebrating Easter by snapping photos of local pups. If you think bunny ears would look completely adorable on your four-legged friend, swing by Easter Pawtraits and make a $5 donation to the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation. All photos will be posted online.

Noon – 6 p.m. A big weekend for anyone with a sweet tooth just got even bigger. Make the drive to Leavenworth for the grand opening of Mrs. Lalla’s Cookies, 510 Cherokee St. The brand-new cookie shop has plans to hand out cookies and chocolate to little ones alongside the Easter bunny and capture the fun with a photo booth onsite. Mrs. Lalla’s bakes fresh cookies daily and can even do personalized orders. The event is free.

1:10 p.m. There’s nothing like a Sunday day game. Baseball is back and the Royals will wrap up the season-opening series against the Texas Rangers Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, 1 Royal Way. Tickets at varying price levels are still available for the game. ‘The K’ will implement pod-style seating this season to ensure social distancing. For now, attendance is capped at 10,000.
