Weekend Possibilities | Kelce Jam, KC Folk Fest and Pete Davidson

A busy weekend around town brings all sorts of live music to the stage – both local artists and major acts.

Family-friendly options on Saturday include the Turkey Creek Festival in Antioch Park and the Water Lantern Festival along Brush Creek.

Friday, May 17

The Pitch’s Scavenger Hunt is underway, but there’s still time to join for the chance to win a $500 cash prize. Create a team of up to four and set off on an adventure across Kansas City to uncover the city’s best spots, hidden gems and icons on your own time. Just be sure to submit your finds via the Social Scavenger app before Sunday’s deadline. Details and specific challenges will be communicated via email from The Pitch. 7 p.m. Film buffs should not miss The Found Footage Festival Volume 10: Popcorn Classics Friday night at recordBar, 1520 Grand Blvd. Join Joe Pickett of The Onion and Nick Prueher as seen on “The Late Show” as they sift through their collection of over 1,000 VHS tapes and take viewers on a guided tour of their latest finds. Tickets are $18.69.

8 p.m. ¡Viva Mexico! ¡Viva America! Friday night at Yardley Hall, 12345 College Blvd., will celebrate Mexican-American traditions in song and dance with combined elements from both sides of the border. Performances from Mariachi Garibaldi de Jamie Cuéllar and Ballet Folklórico de Los Ángeles will take audience members on a journey from traditional style to modern times. Tickets are available starting at $30 for general admission. Johnson County Community College student tickets are $5.

Saturday, May 18

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Turkey Creek Festival is Saturday at Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Rd. The day starts with a Boy Scout pancakes breakfast at 7 a.m., offering plates for $5. At 8 a.m., there’s a 5K/Walk ($30 entry) & Youth Sprint ($7 entry). Free festival programming includes a kids zone with entertainment, a bubble party, inflatables, face painting, dinosaur encounter, kids fishing and more. There will be live music all day courtesy of local groups Unplugged, Uproot and Landrush. Look for food trucks if you get hungry. Free shuttles will run all day from Nations Holding, 9001 W 67^th St.

Noon – 3 p.m. Try out that new tune or just check out local talent at Saturday’s Songwriter Open Mic at Manor Records, 5540 Troost Ave. Manor’s first open mic at its new location will create space for artists to perform up to two or three songs, determined by turnout. Check out the record store’s collection while waiting around. Sign ups start when Manor’s doors open at 10 a.m. The open mic is free.

Noon – 8 p.m. Kansas City Folk Fest will bring music, art and a local makers market to Washington Square Park, 100 E Pershing Rd., Saturday. This year’s lineup features sets from Arquesta Del Solsoul, Madisen Ward, Love, Mae C., Jass, Mariachi Estrella KC and many more. In addition to live music, expect live poetry readings, dance and art exhibits, plus a a youth songwriter contest. The festival is completely free to attend. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a refillable water bottle.

5 p.m. Bigger and better than ever, Kelce Jam returns to Azura Amphitheater, 633 N 130^th St. The mini music festival will feature live performances from Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Diplo, DJ Irie and E-V, plus interactive experiences and games, free Wing Stop, Joe’s KC and Subway, Chiefs player meet and greets and plenty of appearances from three-time Super Bowl Champion tight end Travis Kelce. Lawn general admission tickets are available for $49.99, plus tax and fees.

5:30 – 9:30 p.m. Friends, family and neighbors will gather at Frank A Theis Park, Oak & 47^th St., Saturday evening for the annual Water Lantern Festival. A wristband for the festival grants access to food trucks and vendors, plus a lantern-making kit, LED candle and other goodies to take home. Don’t forget a lawn chair or picnic blanket and bug spray. Tickets are $28.33 for adults and $17.70 for youth, plus tax and fees.

Sunday, May 19

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. There’s an opportunity to add to the collection at Sunday’s KC Sports Cards & Collectibles Expo at The Venue in Independence, 17730 E 39^th St S. A variety of sports cars and memorabilia vendors will be set up throughout the day, in addition to local sports team apparel shops to pick through. Same-day sports card authentication will be available on site. Food trucks and yard games will be set up outdoors. The expo is free to attend.

7 p.m. Wrap up the weekend with the Pete Davidson: Prehab Tour at Uptown Theater, 3700 Broadway Blvd. The comedian, actor and writer has appeared on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Wild ‘n Out” and “SNL,” in addition to a number of feature films. This is a cell phone-free show. Tickets are available starting at $49.50, plus tax and fees.
