Weekend doers can decide between skating under a disco ball, Kansas City mafia documentaries and catfishing demonstrations.

Friday, Nov. 19

6 – 10 p.m. Crossroads Hotel, 2101 Central St., is rolling with Hotel Le Skate to start the weekend. Rent roller skates or bring your own to cruise around the hotel atrium disco ball and move to grooves from DJ 3AM and Dom Chronicles. Tickets and skate rentals are $10, each.

8 – 10:30 p.m. Fans of murder mysteries can play a part in a true Who done it? Friday night at the Redux Society, 215 Southwest Blvd. The Murder on the Boardwalk: A 1920s Murder Mystery party is opening the invitation to anyone interested in playing a character role or participating as a good old-fashioned bystander. Guests will get down on finger food, custom drinks at the bar, swing dance lessons and have the chance to crack the case. Tickets start at $25. Flapper/1920s is the dress code.

8:30 p.m. Carefully choreographed dance and acrobatics will deliver discovery through taste, touch, sight, scent and sound to the Sesnatia Cirque Cabaret audience starting Friday evening. The return of Quixotic’s state-of-the-art on-stage performance to the MTH Theater at Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd., promises a multi-sensory experience using music, perfume, food and motion. You must be 18 years or older to attend. Tickets start at $50.

Saturday, Nov. 20

9 a.m. – 7 p.m. CatCon comes to Kansas City this weekend. Made specifically with catfish anglers in mind, Catfish Conference KC at Bartle Hall, 301 W. 13th St., covers all things catfishing and offers two days of guest speakers, professional catfisher advice, tackle and equipment exhibitions, demonstrations and more. Two-day passes are $7.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Shatto Milk Company is throwing a Holiday Open House, 9406 N Highway 33. Stop by for a photo op with Shatto’s baby calf, the vintage milk truck, inflatables for the kids, donuts, samples, cider slushies and Christmas baskets. Free gifts will be available with qualifying purchases. The open house is free to attend.

7 p.m. Kansas City’s funniest fundraising event is virtual and available to view from the comfort of your own home once again for 2021. Stream THUNDERGONG!, a benefit concert for local non-profit Steps of Faith Foundation, for musical performances and comedy from a stacked lineup including Kansas City’s Jason Sudeikis and Heidi Gardner, plus Fred Armisen, Will Forte, Waxahatchee, Ben Rector and Counting Crows to name just a few. The THUNDERGONG! Stream will be available on Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday, Nov. 21

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Kansas City Woodworkers Guild will host a very special guest in its shop this weekend, 3189 Mercier St. That’s where Santa’s Workshop and Holiday Gift Mart will be set up so kids can stop by and build a toy train alongside Santa and his helpers, while parents can get some holiday shopping done in the gift mart. Santa’s Workshop and Holiday Gift Mart is free to attend.

Noon – 5 p.m. Sunday wraps three days of the Kansas City Mafia Film Festival at Crown Center’s MTH Theater, 2450 Grand Blvd. True crime fans will be treated to a full weekend schedule of documentaries, short films, filmmaker sessions and more involving Kansas City’s history of organized crime. Sunday’s screenings starts with “Ballot Theft: Burglary, Murder, Coverup” with at Noon and continue through “Gangland Wire” starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday night passes are $15. Saturday and Sunday passes are $25, each.

1 p.m. There’s another chance to get ahead on shopping with the Holiday Market popping up over at Parlor in the Crossroads, 1707 Locust. The food hall, offering an array tasty food and drink options is making space for local makers to put their crafty holiday gift items on display and up for sale. No admission fee is required.
