Weekend Possibilities | Haunted Houses, CarnEVIL, Rocky Horror Picture Show, And a Corn Maze

There are about 48 hours between leaving work on Friday and the time you start thinking about work once again on Sunday night. Weekend Possibilities is your roadmap for food, drinks and fun for the perfect Kansas City weekend.

Friday, Oct. 25

5 – 7:30 p.m. Get the weekend going with Indigo Hour: Just a Taste of Jazz at The Blue Room (1600 E. 18th St.). Presented by the American Jazz Museum, Indigo Hour features some of Kansas City’s best R&B and Neo-Soul artists. The show is free.

6 – 9 p.m. There’s a free Teen Fright Night at Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (4420 Warwick Blvd.) for anyone ages 13 to 18. Teens are invited to dress up and enjoy Halloween-themed food, make some art of their own, listen to music and explore “Hew Locke: Here’s the Thing” — one of the museum’s current exhibits, where Locke “explores the languages of colonial and postcolonial power and the symbols through which different cultures assume and assert identity.”

7:30 p.m. – 1 a.m. Halloween means it’s the historic West Bottoms’ time to shine. As lines form up and down the streets adjacent to the 12th Street bridge for The Beast, Edge of Hell and the Macabre Cinema (1401 W. 13 St.), Kansas City’s nationally acclaimed haunted houses dare visitors to make their way through multiple stories of facing their biggest fears. Ticket prices vary. However, a Triple Haunt Pass to all three attractions is $65. Arrive early to ensure entrance and to get the full frightening experience.

Saturday, Oct. 26

6 – 8 p.m. For some spooky family fun, consider a trip to Legends Outlets (1843 Village West Pkwy.) for Halloween on the Lawn. The free event will feature face painting, pumpkin decorating, a photo booth, coody bags, plenty of candy and a screening of Hocus Pocus. Be sure to wear your costume!

8 – 11 p.m. KC Live at Power & Light District (13th Street & Grand Blvd.) is getting into the Halloween spirit Saturday night with CarnEVIL. The all-inclusive party package and costume contest is spread across 14 themed bars, including Hotel Karaoke, Johnny’s Tavern, KC Live! Living Room, Leinie Lodge & Beer Garden, McFadden’s Sports Saloon, Mosaic Ultra Lounge, No Other Pub and more. General admission tickets for those 21 and up are $30. VIP tickets are $50.

Midnight Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Picture Show is back in Kansas City at Prohibition Hall (118 McGee St.) just in time for Halloween. Expect a full-on live production of the classic musical featuring a live band and crowd-participation props. Crowd members should feel free to dress the part, or not, just get your tickets ASAP, because the popular show is selling out fast. If midnight is too late, there’s one last show Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Sunday, Oct. 27

7:30 a.m. Put your costume to the test at the Spooky Sprint 5k, 10k and Half Marathon at Longview Lake Swim Beach (11101 Raytown Road). The Halloween-themed runs welcome the whole family and feature a free kids dash, live results and awards, post-race food and other activities. Register for the half marathon for $59 and for the 5k and 10k for $35 before prices increase after Oct. 25 at 11:59 p.m.

9 a.m. – 6 p.m. A costume will also get you $2 off admission to Louisburg Cider Mill’s Family Farm (14730 Kansas 68 Highway). Put that money saved towards a jug of fresh apple cider, fruit butter or root beer. Family fun at the Cider Mill also includes a dizzying corn maze, pumpkin patch, as well as tours of the mill. Admission is $10, children under the age of 3 are free.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Whether it’s hair of the dog or the start of a Chiefs’ pregame, kick off Sunday celebrations with Beer Hall Bingo at Boulevard Brewing Co. (2534 Madison Ave.). Enjoy a beer cocktail and play for sweet prizes. Bingo is free.

7:20 p.m. The Chiefs will look to get back to their winning ways at Arrowhead Stadium on primetime against quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Bouncing back after dropping back-to-back games at home could be a tall task on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, considering the Chiefs will likely be without 2019 league MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is nursing a right kneecap dislocation. Rodgers is coming off his best game of the season.
