Weekend Possibilities | Chiefs vs. Bengals, Polar Plunge and Making Movies

There’s quite a weekend on tap in Kansas City. Come Sunday, a trip to the Super Bowl could be the cherry on top.

Friday, Jan. 27

7 p.m. Marvel Studio’s “Black Panther” (2018) will be on the big screen at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway Blvd., Friday evening with the movie score performed by a live orchestra. Can’t make it Friday? There’s one final screening Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available starting at $48.50.

8 p.m. The Truman KC, 601 E. Truman Road, is turning back the clock Friday night for This is What Dreams Are Made Of: A Disney & 2000s Dance Party. Plans include throwback jams from artists like Hannah Montana and Hillary Duff, plus drink specials, a photo wall, Disney Channel games and more. Tickets start at $17. You must be 18 or older to attend.

Saturday, Jan. 28

10 a.m. The Polar Plunge returns to Longview Lake, 11101 Raytown Road, Saturday, in support of Special Olympics Missouri. Brave participants will walk, run or jump into freezing water to raise money for individuals living with intellectual disabilities. Wear a fun costume and look forward to music, dancing and exclusively good vibes. Tickets are $10 with a minimum required raised amount of $75.

10 a.m. – 1 p.m. A dozen or so vendors will be set up at the Lenexa Winter Farmers Market, 17101 W. 87^th St. Pkwy., Saturday morning and into the afternoon. Shop for cool-season vegetables, rubs, BBQ sauces, wine, body products and more. Be sure to check online for a full list of participating vendors.

11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. Torn Label Brewing Co., 1708 Campbell St., is celebrating its 8^th Anniversary this weekend. The Crossroads brewery has plans for three beer releases, including a new 8^th Wonder IPA. Tunes will be provided by DJ Jabberock. There is no cover.

8 p.m. Kansas City’s Making Movies returns to the old stomping grounds Saturday night to record a new live album, “XOPA,” on stage at the recently renovated Folly Theater, 300 W. 12^th St. El Grupo Atotonilco will kick things off. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $20.

Sunday, Jan. 29

10 a.m. – 4 p.m. There is a free Lunar New Year Festival at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 4525 Oak St., celebrating the Year of the Rabbit. Expect interactive exhibits, special collections, Asian cuisine, dance, music, games and more across the museum grounds.

1 – 4:30 p.m. Spend Sunday at Donut Fest Kansas City at Rochester Brewing and Roasting Co., 2129 Washington St., for donut samples, coffee, beer and good cheer. Don’t forget to cast your vote for the city’s best donut. General admission tickets are $25. A VIP experience is available for $55.

2 – 10 p.m. The Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from a trip to Super Bowl LVII and The Black Box, 1060 Union Ave., in the West Bottoms has plans to party. Join the weekend Watch Party at the theater, where a full bar will open well before the Chiefs and Bengals kick off and outside snacks are allowed. You Wanna Pizza Me food truck will be parked in the lot. There is no cover.
