Weekend Possibilities | Adam Doleac at Knuckleheads, Slow Art Day and a RuPaul Drag Race Watch Party

There are plenty of ways to dodge April showers this weekend with a variety of live music, eating options and sports watch parties.

Friday, April 9

Get noodles before they’re gone. That should be the game plan for area foodies interested in Parlor’s popular Sura Noodle Bar pop-up, 1707 Locust St. Not to be confused with the food hall’s Sura Eats staple, the noodle bar offers Korean-inspired dishes and sides that are known to sell out. Be sure to stop in before pop-up packs up at the end of the month.

6 – 7 p.m. The Kansas City Symphony’s Mobile Music Box is stopping at the YMCA of North Kansas City, 1999 Iron St., Friday evening. Pull up a chair or blanket and end the week with a free hour of soothing chamber music from a symphony brass section. Be sure to wear a mask.

6:45 – 9 p.m. With 15 flat screen televisions, plus new and improved food and drink menus, Woody’s KC, 3740 Broadway, is the area’s official, and perhaps only RuPaul’s Drag Race watch party location. Arrive early to get a table and settle in for each episode of the Emmy Award-winning series. You must be 21 years old to enter. Masks are required.

Saturday, April 10

A second edition of The Masters golf tournament in six months is worth celebrating. Golf fanatics can catch all of the action at Chicken N Pickle’s four-day watch party, 1761 Burlington St.. Drink deals include a $7 John Daly cocktail and a $20 Michelob Ultra Seltzer bucket. Stop by during the Saturday and Sunday rounds to test your skills with a game of “puttskee” and “chippo” out back.

1:30 – 3 p.m. Get ready to cross your arms behind your back and stare at a masterpiece, because Saturday is Slow Art Day. Celebrate the global event designed to help people discover the joy of looking at and loving art at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Missouri, 2818 Frederick Ave. Participants will look at three pieces of art for 10 minutes each and then discuss their thoughts of the experience. Tickets are $5.

5:30 – 8:00 p.m. North Kansas City’s Iron District, 1599 Iron St., will be filled with the sounds of Coyote and The Jackalope Saturday evening. Enjoy the live, local music with dinner and drinks from the collection of shipping container dining spots like Avobite, Morning Day and more. Don’t worry, there’s even a full bar container.

6 p.m. Country singer-songwriter Adam Doleac is coming to Knuckleheads Saloon, 2715 Rochester Ave. The Mississippi artist who was proclaimed “the hero country needs” by Popdust has credits writing with country stars like Kane Brown and Darius Rucker. Tickets are $20.

Sunday, April 11

10 a.m. – Noon Have you ever flirted with the idea of owning a food truck? The Mid-Continent Public Library is laying out the blueprint for what it takes with Food Trucking 101. The free virtual class will provide tips, best practices and what it takes to get started in the food trucking industry and feature guest speakers like Brandon Simpson of Jazzy B’s Food Truck, Kim Niebaum and Michelle Ferguson of CoffeeCake KC and August Spallo of CiaoBella. Registration is required.

10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Fiddler in Concert is coming to your living room. The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City is presenting Fiddler in Concert, an on-demand virtual cabaret from the White Theatre. Local singers and musicians will play selections from “Fiddler on the Roof” like “If I were a Rich Man” and “Tradition”. Streaming tickets are $15 per household.

3 – 6 p.m. If you’re pumped for soccer season, grab your pup and get to Bar K for Sunday with Sporting, 501 Berkley Parkway. Sporting KC’s No Other Pub will be on hand providing music and drinks and there will be an SKC jersey giveaway. The first 500 guests in rocking Sporting swag will receive a Sporting KC dog bandana. The event is free for humans and Bar K members. Day passes for your dog are $15, then $5 for each additional pup.
