Three Dog Bakery Adds Treats to Bar K

It’s the kind of place any dog would like to spend their day.

Three Dog Bakery has opened its fifth location in the Kansas City area in its own space at the Bark K café and dog park, and with all the pups romping around, it’s great for drop-in business.

“It’s a unique interaction for our brand,” said Ally Homa, Three Dog marketing director. “It’s fun for the dogs to pop in.”

The new shop opened in mid-July and among the many treats and toys it offers, one of its specialties is birthday cakes to help canines celebrate their special day.

“The cool thing about Bar K is it has party spaces where you can book a birthday,” Homa said.

Not your usual dog treats are part of Three Dog’s appeal.

The new Three Dog Bakery is located in its own former shipping container which fits in with the overall Bar K design. The riverfront dog destination, which opened three years ago, used containers as building blocks in its design.

The new space has a window opening into the main Bar K café, and a door and window on the outside where the dogs run free.

Three Dog was started in 1989 in Kansas City by a pair of dog owners whose pet experienced food allergies.

They came up with a healthier variety of dog treats as a solution and there are now 46 Three Dogs throughout North America and in Hong Kong. The products also are sold at larger outlets including Amazon and Target.

The Three Dog outlet at Bar K is located in a separate shipping container space with access from inside and outside.

The Bar K store opening was timed to coincide with “DOGust,” designated as the month to celebrate birthdays for rescue pups, according to a press release.

Hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; Saturday noon to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.

Throughout this month, Three Dog Bakery stores nationwide are selling pet bandanas for $5 each with the net proceeds donated to a local rescue shelter in the community.

In Kansas City, the shelters benefitting from the donations are Melissa’s Second Chances in Shawnee and Lucky 13 Rescue in Kansas City.

The other local Three Dog Bakery locations are at the Country Club Plaza, Leawood, Overland Park and Lee’s Summit.
