Something is brewing at Double Shift Brewing Co. The brewery’s delicious creations are now available in cans throughout the metropolitan area as it expands beyond keg distribution.

“Canning has been a real learning experience, but it is very humbling to see the excitement in the taproom and in the marketplace for the Double Shift brand. It makes it worth the effort.” said Jon Conway, head brewer and graphic designer at Double Shift, 412 E. 18th St. in Kansas City.

Tessellation (6.7% ABV), a single-hopped mosaic IPA, and Ordiata (6.5% ABV), the brewery’s horchata-inspired milk stout, now may be found in liquor stores like Gomer’s, Mike’s Wine and Spirits, and Brookside Wine and Spirits.

More Double Shift brews are slated for release in cans this year.

Beer Releases

Alma Mader Brewing — 2635 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri — had a flurry of beer releases recently, many of which are now sold out. Klinker (5% ABV), a German-style pilsner, is the exception. This brew was cold-conditioned for a very long time, and carries floral, delicate notes with a punch of Hallertau hops.

Casual Animal Brewing Co. — 1725 McGee St., Kansas City, Missouri — dropped two beers recently. Memory Fade Hazy IPA (6% ABV), a hazy IPA with tropical notes, and Blueberry Vanilla Stout (5.2% ABV), a chocolatey smooth stout, are both available in Casual Animal’s taproom.

Torn Label Brewing Co. — 1708 Campbell St., Kansas City, Missouri — recently released a barleywine called Borrowing Trouble, which clocks in at a whopping 11% ABV. The brewery boasts that this is “among the biggest beers ever brewed at Torn Label.” This malt-forward, toffee-, amaretto- and rum raisin-flavored behemoth is available in draft.

It’s the end of the world, and 3Halves Brewing Co. — 110 E. Kansas St., Liberty, Missouri — knows it! The brewery just dropped Farmageddon, a delicious farmhouse ale/saison clocking in at 7.5% ABV.

Crane Brewing Co. — 6515 Railroad St., Raytown, Missouri — just dropped Janautis, a 5.5% ABV pale ale fermented with Lithuanian farmhouse yeast. This beer was made with elderflower, juniper, and lemongrass, just like the classic gin cocktail we’ve all grown to love and cherish.

Not Lost Brewing — 229 S. Main St., Ottawa, Kansas — released Lost in the Sunshine (5.4% ABV, 13 IBU), an American wheat ale packed with tangerine and wheat flavor.

We’re dreaming in purple at Servaes Brewing Co. — 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. Dreams in Color – Purple Pineapple (4.5% ABV), is a Berliner weisse made with copious amounts of pineapple, and also lemongrass, vanilla, blue hibiscus tea and blueberries.

Prime Numbers (6.7% ABV) is the newest creation at Pathlight Brewing —11200 W. 75th St., Shawnee, Kansas. After doing the math, we’ve concluded that this hazy IPA is bursting with fruity, citrusy and hoppy flavors. Don’t think too hard, though. Grab a pint ASAP!

Limitless Brewing — 9765 Widmer Road, Lenexa, Kansas — dropped a strawberry lemon cream ale called Fearless (5.6% ABV), and it’s available in cans on their website. While you’re at it, snag a koozie!

Friday, April 16

Head over to Rockcreek Brewing Co. — 5880 Beverly Ave., Mission, Kansas — this Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. for tacos. The Taco Tank will be posted up at Rockcreek slinging tacos, nachos and your favorite Mexican street fare.

It’s Ladies Night at Outfield Beer Co. — 10953 Kaw Drive, Edwardsville, Kansas — this Friday at 7 p.m. Just $20 gets you cookie decorating supplies, beer and a movie.

Lost Evenings Brewing Co. — 8625 Hauser Court, Lenexa, Kansas — is hosting live music this Friday featuring the music of Nick and Anna, a power duo whose musical covers span decades of pop music. The show starts at 6 p.m.

Saturday, April 17

DJ Boss Hooligan and Satta Selector will be spinning records from 5 – 10 p.m. Saturday in celebration of the fifth anniversary of Stockyards Brewing Co. — 1600 Genessee St., Kansas City, Missouri. Social distancing guidelines will be in place.

The Big Rip Brewing Co. — 216 E. 9th Ave., North Kansas City, Missouri — is throwing a party this Saturday starting at 2 p.m. to celebrate the release of their habanero IPA called Ectoplasm, a collaboration between Big Rip Brewing, El Yucateco Hot Sauce and The Ectoplasm Show. 

East Forty Brewing — 1201 W. Main St., Blue Springs, Missouri — is celebrating the release of Dream Catcher, a Belgian strong ale brewed with elderflower, grapefruit and orange pee, and honey. This beer was made in collaboration with Dream Factory of Kansas City, an organization dedicated to making chronically and critically ill children’s dreams come true. Stay for the beer release, and stick around for the live music starting at 6 p.m.

Apex Aleworks — 4356 S. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri — is hosting live music this Saturday from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. Happy Hour starts at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., The Hoodoo’s will perform your classic rock favorites.
