The Super Bowl is right around the corner and for many of us this means two things – beer and football. No matter how loud your cousin Steve yells at the television screen, beer will flow like the waters of the Kaw, and nacho cheese will drip down our chests as Patrick Mahomes leads the Chiefs into their first Super Bowl in 50 years. So, whether you’re heading to a Super Bowl party this weekend, planning to watch the game from the comfort of your La-Z-Boy, or foregoing sports altogether, here at Flatland we’ve got you covered.

Boulevard Brewing Co. recently announced that its popular Tank 7 (ABV 8.5%, 38 IBU) farmhouse ale will also be distributed in cans. The new packaging for Tank 7 hit shelves earlier this month and comes in four 16-ounce “tallboy” cans.

This release follows an announcement made by Boulevard back in 2015, when the company declared its intention to make canned Boulevard beer a reality. Since then, Boulevard has featured a series of canned beers, including their Steep Drop Milk Stout, Jam Band Berry Ale, Easy Sport Rally Ale and Tropical Pale Ale.

The canned Tank 7 represents Boulevard’s clearest sign yet that it can evolve beyond the long-standing perception that truly great beer cannot be canned.

“We’ve been around for over 25 years and we’ve seen a lot of changes in the beer industry, including amazing advances in canning technology,” said Jeremy Danner, former Ambassador Brewer at Boulevard, when the company first announced its canning strategy. “Evolution of our brewery is super important.”

Boulevard Brewing Co.’s Tank 7 (8.5% ABV, 38 IBU) is a classic farmhouse ale with notes of grapefruit, hop, and green apple. If you haven’t had this beer before, what are you waiting for? Grab a six-pack in glass bottles or a four-pack of tallboy cans!

KC Bier Co.’s Dunkel (5.1% ABV, 18 IBU) is a Munich-style brown lager with strong notes of sugarcane, maple syrup and french toast. 

Free State Brewing Co.’s Oatmeal Stout is a delicious English oatmeal stout (6.1% ABV, 42 IBU) with notes of cherry and chocolate on the front end, followed by notes of pecan on the finish.

Public House Brewing Co.’s Elusive IPA clocks in at about 6.8% ABV (60 IBU). This beer is crafted with carefully selected hop varieties, and tastes like lemon, ginger and cinnamon.

Saturday, Feb. 1

Head over to Granite City Food & Brewery, 1701 Village West Pkwy. in Kansas City, Kansas, this Saturday for the Carnaval Brazilian Amburana Aged Stout Tapping Event. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., try a stout that takes its influence from Cachaca, a Brazilian liquor.

This Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Bier Station, 120 E. Gregory Blvd. in Kansas City, is celebrating its 7th Anniversary! The event will feature almost 30 amazing local beers on tap, including Alma Mader Approaching Dusk Oatmeal Stout, BKS Artisan Ales Green Dragon NEIPA, and Torn Label Seconds, Please Imperial Pecan Pie Milk Stout. 

Sunday, Feb. 2

Before the big game on Sunday, head over to Crane Brewing, 6515 Railroad St. in Raytown, Missouri, for the Pre-Game Party! Crane Brewing will be featuring $3 Champ Stamp pints on draft, a $5 all-you-can-eat nacho buffet, and a limited run of their Champ Stamp growlers to-go!

If you’re planning on watching the Super Bowl at a brewery in the Kansas City metro, then you’re in luck! First, you have the option of watching the game at Casual Animal Brewing Co., 1725 McGee St. in Kansas City. As per their game-day tradition, get a $1 swifty pour every time the Chiefs score a touchdown!

You also have the option of watching the game at Border Brewing Co., 406 E. 18th St. in Kansas City. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Border Brewing will be offering up a Super Bowl Punch Bowl, a super drink mixture that includes their Heritage Blonde Ale (4.2% ABV, 20 IBU).

Finally, Lawrence Beer Co., 826 Pennsylvania St. in Lawrence, Kansas, is hosting a Super Bowl Party! From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Lawrence Beer Co. will be offering $4 beers and an all-you-can-eat buffet.
