Tap List | Happy Birthday to Several Area Breweries

There must be something about July because lots of breweries are celebrating birthdays this month. This past week alone saw three different breweries celebrating anniversaries.

Fields & Ivy Brewery in Lawrence celebrated its second anniversary with a luau complete with food and drink specials all day and live music in the evening.

Another Lawrence mainstay, Black Stag Brewery, marked its anniversary with a classic crawfish boil, going so far as to get 100 pounds of crawfish fresh from Natchitoches, Louisiana.

And in North Kansas City, Callsign Brewing rang in three years of being open over the weekend. They kept it simple by offering $3 beers. You can’t celebrate a birthday without a sweet treat though, right? Callsign offered up a birthday dessert courtesy of a local pastry chef.

While not necessarily a birthday, downtown Kansas City’s Red Sash Brewing held a couple of soft openings. If you’re unfamiliar with Red Sash, they took over the former Border Brewing space in the Crossroads neighborhood. While there’s been no official word on a grand opening, Red Sash has been inviting people to stop in for some brews on their social media accounts.

If you’re bummed out that you missed all of these birthday bashes, fear not! Double Shift Brewing and Diametric Brewing will both be celebrating anniversaries later this month, so be sure to check out future Tap List articles for all of the details!

Beer Releases

Limitless Brewing Co  — 9765 Widmer Road, Lenexa, Kansas — has released Grundfos Basement Pale Ale in conjunction with neighboring company Grundfos. This collaborative hazy pale ale rings in at 5% ABV and is not available in cans and on tap.

Pathlight Brewing — 11200 W. 75th St., Shawnee, Kansas — has officially released Foeder Saison. While this beer has many elements of a classic saison, it was wild fermented in a foeder, giving it some qualities of a sour ale. Ringing in at 6.3% ABV, you can find it in bottles or on tap at the tap room.

Servaes Brewing Co  — 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — has channeled the classic Mexican cocktail, the margarita, into a beer. They just released JOCO Loco, which is a 5% gose style beer brewed with Pink Himalayan sea salt, lime juice, and agave syrup. As you can imagine, it pairs perfectly with chips and salsa and plenty of tacos.

Sandhills Brewing — 5612 Johnson Drive, Mission, Kansas — has two new beers for you this week. They’ve revamped their Barred Owl, a Scottish export, by aging it in a fresh oak barrel. It may be dark in color, but it’s light on the palate. If that’s not your style, grab their new DIPA, Flamingo. It rings in at a hefty 8.8% ABV with plenty of tropical notes.

Fields & Ivy Brewery — 706 E. 23rd St., Lawrence, Kansas — has just released Wheat Heavy. This wee heavy Scotch ale clocks in at a hefty 8.6% ABV and 50 IBUs. Brewed with Kansas wheat malt, this beer has plenty of sweet malt flavor.

Friday, July 16

Servaes Brewing Co — 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — is ready to kick off your shark week the right way. In anticipation of everyone’s favorite week of TV, they’ll be hosting a party and releasing multiple beers. Additionally, they’ll be donating $2 of every beer sold to Reach Out & Read Kansas City.

Saturday, July 17

Red Crow Brewing Co — 1062 W Santa Fe St., Olathe, Kansas — knows you have to balance health and fun. That’s why they’re partnering with Yoga Reimagined to offer up a Saturday morning Brewhouse Yoga class. The $15 ticket includes a guided class by certified yoga instructor Kristy West and includes one beer or mimosa after the class. All fitness levels welcome!

Diametric Brewing Co — 949 N.E. Columbus St., Lees Summit, Missouri — brewers Devin and Sean are trading in fermentors for frying pans for a day. The duo will be switching roles for the Brewer Kitchen Takeover event. In addition to the Burn Theory Fire Kitchen menu, the two will be cooking up some special menu items.

Sunday July 18

KC Bier Co — 310 W. 79th St., Kansas City, Missouri — wants you to end your weekend on a nice relaxing note with some live jazz by guitarist Rod Fleeman and drummer Jurgen Welge in the biergarten.

Transport Brewery — 11113 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kasas — continues the Best Friend Bingo Series. This week’s event will be benefitting Melissa’s Second Chances, a nonprofit that helps find homes for animals in need of a second chance. Just $10 gets you a bingo card and a beer or wine.

Monday July 19

City Barrel — 1740 Holmes St., Kansas City, Missouri — is partnering with Cliff’s Taphouse to bring you a six-course beer dinner. The menu was designed by chefs Laura Valdivia (Cliff’s Taphouse) and Benjamin Wood (City Barrel). Each course will be paired with a different City Barrel beer. The event is taking place at Cliff’s Taphouse and tickets can be purchased here.
