Tap List | Crossroads Breweries Band Together For A Good Cause

If you’re a craft beer lover there’s a pretty good chance you’ve done some brewery hopping over in the East Crossroads neighborhood of Kansas City. The area features the city’s highest concentration of breweries, not to mention a few distilleries and wineries.

Now, they’re formally banding together under the banner of the East Crossroads Craft Beverage District. The group hopes to work together to build the community in the East Crossroads.

The district currently consists of eight breweries, two distilleries and one winery. Torn Label Brewing Co., Double Shift Brewing, Border Brewing Co., City Barrel, Nimble Brewing Co., Casual Animal, Brewery Emperial, and Red Sash Brewing Co. are all members.

Plans call for the group to collaborate on several events throughout the winter months. To kick things off, they partnered with Harvesters to host a community food drive last weekend. Participating members offered drink specials in exchange for canned food donations. Future initiatives include a holiday market, a coat drive and a Putt-Putt bar crawl.

In even more exciting East Crossroads news, Border Brewing Co. announced it will be hosting a grand re-opening party this Friday, Nov. 12.

Started by Eric Martens in 2015, Border Brewing quickly became a staple in the Crossroads as the first brewery to open in the neighborhood. Outgrowing their former space, now occupied by Red Sash Brewing Co., Border moved just down the street. The new location will have room for up to 72 people and has given them the ability to expand their brewing operations.

Beer Releases

Double Shift Brewing — 412 E. 18th St., Kansas City, Missouri — just released a new collaboration beer with the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. Black & Bold is a 5.8% dry-hopped English brown ale. The beer uses lots of specialty malts and cold brew coffee from Parisi Coffee, resulting in flavors of coffee, chocolate and toffee. Moreover, $1 from each pour will be donated to the Urban League.

Alma Mader Brewery — 2635 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri — released a brand new juicy pale ale called Small Oasis. With a hop profile akin to their IPAs, Small Oasis (5.8%) has a malt bill consisting of Pilsner malt, wheat and oats, creating a delicate yet creamy mouthfeel.

Boulevard Brewing Co. — 2501 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri — just released the latest addition to their limited Smokestack Series beers, Sugarwood Baklava. This 14.2% beer has flavors that are a cross between a bourbon pecan pie and baklava. Bourbon and maple initially hit your nose followed by flavors of pecan, whiskey and sweet honey.

City Barrel — 1740 Holmes St., Kansas City, Missouri — has two new releases this week. First up is their Blueberry Cobbler (8.5%). Brewed with lots of blueberries, white wheat malt and some cinnamon, you’ll be left wondering whether you’re consuming an actual slice of blueberry cobbler or a beer. Also available is Thank You, a 7.6% saison dry hopped with New Zealand Rakau hops.

Rochester Brewing Co. — 2129 Washington St., Kansas City, Missouri — just came out with two new beers. First is 4.5% English Porter with flavors of nuts and toffee. It’s perfect for these cool fall nights. If you want something hoppy, go for DDH VIII. The latest in their experimental New England IPA series, this 7.4% version features Galaxy, Mosaic, and Citra hops.

Stockyards Brewing Co. — 1600 Genessee St., Ste. 100, Kansas City, Missouri — just tapped their newest beer, Brunch Stout. You’ll get plenty of flavors reminiscent of breakfast. The front end of this 6% beer has flavors of chocolate and brown sugar and finishes with coffee.

Pathlight Brewing — 11200 W. 75th St., Shawnee, Kansas — dropped the latest in their single hop pale ale series. B61: Mosaic is a 6.1% hazy pale ale and features Mosaic hops. This hop features flavors of citrus, tropical fruits, and a little bit of pine.

Thursday, Nov. 11

City Barrel — 1740 Holmes St., Kansas City, Missouri — is teaming up with Apple Pie Painting to host a Paint Your Pet night. Open to all pet lovers, tickets include a paint-by-numbers painting kit customized for your pet plus $5 off any food and drink purchase. Tickets are limited and can be purchased here.

Friday, Nov. 12

Border Brewing Co. — 512 E. 18th St., Kansas City, Missouri — is re-opening their doors after their move and expansion. Join them for their Grand Re-Opening Party starting at noon and going until 11p.m. They’ll have their four flagship beers on tap along with some seasonal offerings.

Not Lost Brewing Co. — 229 S. Main St., Ottawa, Kansas — is hosting a Vinyl Night in conjunction with The Ampersand Vinyl. You’ll be able to try Not Lost’s newest beer releases while listening to a playlist put together by Ampersand.

Transport Brewery — 11113 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — has put together a special day for school teachers and personnel. Transport’s Teacher & School Officials Appreciation Day will be offering 50% off all beers and $10 crowlers to go as a continued thank you for their hard work during this pandemic. Duke’s Food Truck will be on hand for all your food needs.

Saturday, Nov. 13

Stockyards Brewing Co. — 1600 Genessee St., Ste. 100, Kansas City, Missouri — is teaming up with Freight Train Rabbit Killer to throw one last costume party before you put away those costumes for the year. Freight Train Rabbit Killer will also be on hand selling original merch. The event is free to attend with costumes highly encouraged.

3 Trails Brewing Co. — 111 N. Main St., Independence, Missouri — is the jumping off point for a brewery tour around Independence. Starting with 3 Trails, the tour will head to three additional breweries where discounts and tours will be offered. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here.

Sunday, Nov. 14

Crane Brewing Co. — 6515 Railroad St., Raytown, Missouri — is putting together a Sunday funday for the whole family. They’ll be hosting a Petting Zoo at their brewery. The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. and will also feature delicious smashburgers from the Big Red food truck.

Boulevard Brewing Co. — 2501 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri — is partnering with the KC Boosters for a KC Chiefs Watch Party at Buzzworks. The event will feature KC Pils, Space Camper and Tank 7 on draft, plus giveaways and a raffle for even more prizes.
