Tap List | Comparing KC Irish Red Ales to the Original, Smithwick’s

March 12, 2021  |  Emily Woodring  |  1 min read

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, and it’s a pretty big deal in Kansas City, which boasts a rich Irish culture and history. Quite a few breweries in the area turn out Irish red ales, so we wanted to see how two of them stacked up against the original.

Stockyards Brewing Co.’s County Clare Irish Ale and Martin City Brewing Co.’s Irish High Five were the two local ales selected to match up against Smithwick’s Red Ale, which dates all the way back to 1710.

It’s a tough gig serving as our local beer enthusiast, but Cassie Niemeyer is always game for a blind taste test. Watch the attached video to see the results, just in time for your weekend beer run.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, friends of Flatland. Slàinte!
