Tap List | Cheers To 7 Years for KC Brewery!

When I was in college, initially for a degree in hospitality management, we were taught that it takes about five years for a business such as a restaurant to be deemed successful. Even then, that’s probably the break even point.

That makes it notable that Kansas City’s Torn Label Brewing Co. will soon be celebrating seven years in the service industry. From popular mainstay beers such as Alpha Pale Ale and Monk & Honey Belgian Blonde to delicious rotating/seasonal beers like Lup Sup and Sea Trolls, Torn Label has grown into a household name amongst beer lovers in the area.

They’ve been able to grow from their original taproom, which is still in operation, to adding what they call the Torn Label Public House. This second location that opened in April 2021 just around the corner from their original spot, features another taproom, patio space and full kitchen.

To mark the occasion, Torn Label will be celebrating with a full week of anniversary events. From beer releases to beer dinners, they’ll have a bit of everything throughout the week. You can check out the full list of events here:

Beer Releases

Lost Evenings Brewing Co. — 8625 Hauser Court, Lenexa, Kansas — is in an Irish state of mind. They just released their latest beer, Irish Rover. Irish Rover is an easy drinking 5% ABV Irish red ale. With an emphasis on the malt, this beer has a red hue and flavors ranging from toasty to toffee.

Crane Brewing Co. — 6515 Railroad St., Raytown, Missouri — has a new brew for all you alien lovers! Aronia 51 is a brand new milkshake IPA. Coming in at a big 9.1% ABV, this IPA uses Aronia berries, which impart a bit of tartness somewhat akin to tart apple or unsweetened black cherry.

Pathlight Brewing — 11200 W. 75th St., Shawnee, Kansas — has a double release for you. First up is their Mega Moo-Latte. This velvety 8% ABV coffee double milk stout was brewed with an Indonesian Sumtra roast resulting in flavors of chocolate, caramel and coffee. For the hop lovers, there’s Prime Numbers. Coming in at 6.7% ABV, this hazy IPA uses U.S. and New Zealand hops leading to flavors of papaya, melon and tangerine.

Apex Aleworks — 4356 S. Noland Road, Independence, Missouri — just tapped three new beers in their taproom. For the hop lovers there’s Tonga Valley and Psycho Haze Beast. Tonga Valley is 9.3% ABV DIPA with fruity flavors and a clean finish. Psycho Haze Beast is a 7.5% ABV New Englnd IPA. Lastly is their Roarin’ Loren Red. This 5.5% ABV Irish red ale features classic malty flavors with a clean, crisp finish.

Fringe Beerworks — 224 S.E. Douglas St., Lee’s Summit, Missouri — is blasting off with a brand new beer. Rocket Man is 5.5% ABV oatmeal stout based on the popular treat Star Crunch. This beer has lots of chocolate and caramel flavors akin to the Star Crunch cookie.

Grains & Taps — 10 S.W. 3rd St., Lee’s Summit, Missouri — has a new beer to help warm you up this winter. Using their Obscenities Imperial Stout as their base, this beer was aged on habanero peppers, cinnamon, cacao and vanilla beans. At 10.1% ABV, this beer is sure to thaw that chill.

The Goat Brewing Co. — 817 N.E. Rice Road, Lee’s Summit, Missouri — just released a new limited release beer. Amico Nostro is a 10.9% ABV imperial stout. They added in smoked blueberries to give this stout a smoky, but delicious twist.

Strange Days Brewing Co. — 316 Oak St., Kansas City, Missouri — has yet another new release available. This week sees a big imperial brown ale called Mellow Flow. At 11.3% ABV, this beer features chocolate, marshmallow and vanilla. In addition to those flavors, you’ll get notes of caramel and dark cherry.

Beer Events

Friday, Jan. 21

Callsign Brewing — 1340 Burlington St., North Kansas City, Missouri — is finally opening their doors. Callsign will be hosting a Grand Opening Party to celebrate their new location. All are welcome to come check out the new space. They’ll have Wolfepack BBQ on hand for all of your food needs. Festivities kick off at 4 p.m.

Servaes Brewing Co. — 10921 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas — is hosting a release party for a good cause. Finley’s Orange Soda & Radler release is being put on in honor of Finley, the son of one of their friends and regulars, who sadly passed away at age 3 of a rare congenital heart defect. Proceeds from the soda and radler will be donated to the Congenital Heart Defects Families Association, which is a local nonprofit.

Saturday, Jan. 22

Not Lost Brewing Co. — 229 S. Main St., Ottawa, Kansas — has a night of music in store for you. The Ampersand Vinyl continues to make the brewery rounds, this time at Not Lost. The free Vinyl Pop-Up event will feature over 1,000 records for sale. Whether you’re just getting into vinyl or a seasoned collector, there’s sure to be a record for you.

East Forty Brewing — 1201 W. Main St., Blue Springs, Missouri — will be the jumping off point for a day of brewery tours. The Iron Carriage Brewery Tour will start at East Forty and go to three other breweries in the area before returning back to East Forty in the late afternoon. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here.

Sunday, Jan. 23

ExBEERiment — 925 E. Lincoln Lane, Gardner, Kansas — is hosting a family friendly bingo event. The free event starts at 2 p.m. and will feature prizes for both adults and kids. Now that sounds like an ideal Sunday fun day.

Limitless Brewing — 9765 Widmer Road, Lenexa, Kansas — has an afternoon filled with live music. Limitless will feature the tunes of Jayson Kayne from 3-5 p.m. in their tap room. Swing in, grab a beer, and relax with some great music.
