Sushi burritos, BBQ Pizza & Other Weekend Possibilities

Dip it all in butter. Krab Kingz — which has a location in Westport — is holding a grand opening for a second spot at 320 SW Blue Parkway in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at 11 a.m. Saturday. Krab Kingz serves all the pieces of a traditional seafood boil with crabs, shrimp, potatoes and corn available.

Pokelicious (7414 W. 119th St., Overland Park, Kansas), which is serving poke bowls and sushi burritos, opened earlier this week. The new spot serves poke (spicy tuna, smoked salmon, miso crab and shrimp) or grilled meat (chicken or tofu teriyaki, spicy Korean pork, or beef bulgogi) bowls.

The bowls start with a base of brown or white rice or green tea soba noodles. You then add on meat, fish or tofu, along with veggies (cucumber, roasted corn, serrano pepper), sauces (pineapple mango bomb, spicy bibimbap) and toppings (avocado, pickled ginger, toasted sesame seeds). Pokelicious also serves miso soup.

Wineries understand how to celebrate anniversaries because they’re in the celebration business. KC Wineworks (1829 McGee St.) turns three this Saturday with a party from noon to 10 p.m. The Crossroads winery will be serving wine, cider and wine slushies.

Betty Rae’s Ice Cream is also celebrating its third anniversary with a birthday cake sundae collaboration with Cami’s Cake Co. You can also get an oatmeal cream pie ice cream sandwich and sugar cookies. The sundae will be available Friday through Sundae at both Betty Rae’s locations.

Coco’s Cafe is hosting Pop Up Finale!, a night of Puerto Rican food (start with the arroz con gandules, yellow rice with sofrito, peas and green onion) and salsa dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Blip Coffee Roasters (1101 Mulberry) in the West Bottoms. Tickets, which include food and drinks, are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

True Food Kitchen (4749 Pennsylvania Ave.) has opened on the Country Club Plaza. The health-minded fast casual spot — based out of Phoenix, Arizona — has burgers, pizza, bowls and salads, with clear labels for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets. The restaurant’s version of happy hour, called “social hour,” is from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Get a spicy margarita or herb hummus for $5. Throw down an Andrew Jackson for a bottle of wine and a margherita pizza.

True Food Kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Brunch is available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The world may just have moved on from barbecue chicken pizza. Minsky’s and Joe’s Kansas City debuted their new collaboration pizza this week. The pie has Joe’s french fry seasoning on its crust and brisket, pulled pork and original barbecue sauce atop mozzarella cheese.

Burnt Finger BBQ, the creator of the Bacon Explosion (pork wrapped in bacon and smoked), has that bacon explosion and its smokey barbecue sauce on pizzas at Old Shawnee Pizza and Long-Bell Pies, Bites and Pints.
