Spotlight on the Spoken Word | Natasha Ria El-Scari

November 24, 2015  |    |  2 min read

We’re taking a moment to recognize Kansas City’s wordsmiths.

Taken from KCPT’s “Arts Upload,” which has amassed an impressive collection of local poets reading their own works, “Spotlight” gives Flatland a chance to catch up with the artists. We find out what they’re up to and get their take on what to watch in the local and national art scene.

This week:

Natasha Ria El-Scari | “100 Girls”

Where do you live now?

I currently live in Kansas City, MO

Any current projects?

My current project is the September release of my first book, “Screaming Times”. I’m busy promoting the book and doing readings.

What’s your best moment from this week?

My best moment from this week was watching my daughter in her first Lyra performance. I was completely moved and inspired.

Who are you listening to/reading/watching that we need to know about?

I am reading Claudia Rankine’s, “Citizen,” listening to Jill Scott and The Internet, as well as a webinar of African American poets.

Do you have a goal for 2016?

To maintain an organized home office and to get my French doors installed so I don’t disturb my family with my night owl writing hours.

Next week on “Spotlight”:

Unique Hughley | “Shoes”
