Spotlight on the Spoken Word | Alyssa Bennett Smith
December 22, 2015 | | 1 min read
We’re taking a moment to recognize Kansas City’s wordsmiths.
Taken from KCPT’s “Arts Upload,” which has amassed an impressive collection of local poets reading their own works, “Spotlight” gives Flatland a chance to catch up with the artists. We find out what they’re up to and get their take on what to watch in the local and national art scene.
This week:
Alyssa Bennett Smith | “Manifest Destiny”
Where do you live now?
Denver, Colorado
Any current projects?
I am currently working on a visual art series called Her Holiness. They are embroidered icons of female patron saints of feminist causes.
What’s your best recent moment?
Getting to see two friends from Kansas City!
Who are you listening to/reading/watching that we need to know about?
I am reading the first novel by my favorite essayist, Sloane Crosley. It’s called “The Clasp”.
Do you have a goal for 2016?
To get connected to the spoken word scene in Denver and show them what Kansas City has to offer!
Next week on “Spotlight”:
Mz. Angela Roux | “Stand”
