Shatto’s Family Day at The Farm & Other Weekend Possibilities

Get to know a neighborhood cow at the Shatto Milk Company’s Family Day at the Farm (9406 N. Highway 33, Osborn, Missouri). The open house is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and features cheese-making demonstrations, hayrides, farm tours, milk samples and the chance to pet a baby calf. The event on the farm is free.

Find backyard grill inspiration at the Independence Fire & Ice BBQ tonight and tomorrow. There’s a barbecue contest —Plowboys BBQ will be available for purchase — a beer garden and Friday night ice skating. Tickets are $10 tonight, and gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free Saturday, and gates open at 11 a.m.

Make it a weekend in Independence. The Bingham-Waggoner Estate hosts Independence Uncorked from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday. More than 20 Missouri wineries will be sampling their wine alongside a series of craft and food vendors — keep an eye out for the cajeta from Borgman’s Farm. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.

Sip and stroll with the Fall Wine Walk on Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. The Village at Briarcliff (4151 N. Mulberry Drive) hosts the shopping and sipping event. Tickets are $5, which covers the wine samples and benefits Feed Northland Kids.

You need fuel for the weekend, so why not follow the trail of food trucks? The Young Friends of Art and 90.9 The Bridge are hosting a Food Truck Happy Hour tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The Bochi Truck and The Waffler will be slinging food alongside a cash bar. The fun continues Sunday with Lip Smackin’ at Macken Park from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. The North Kansas City park will have 10 trucks parked, along with a 9-hole mini golf course.

Lawrence has a new beer garden. Hooray beer. The Lucia Beer Garden + Grill (1016 Massachusetts St.) — think Jamaican food meets craft beer — is hosting a grand opening tonight from 7 to 10 p.m.

You’ll never look at Shakespeare the same way after tonight. The Buffalo Room (817 Westport Road, inside the Westport Flea Market) hosts Drunken Shakesepeare. MacDrunk is a wild version of Macbeth that includes cast members drinking on stage and a drinking game for the audience. The doors open at 7 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 and help to support Whim Productions’ next season.

See baristas rock out and get a proper hit of caffeine. About The Coffee hosts its annual Barista Jam Jam with a free espresso bar and baristas stepping out from behind the coffee bar and on to the stage to rock out from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
