Reach Out and Read Kansas City

Reach Out and Read Kansas City began in 1997 as a collaboration between the pediatricians at Children’s Mercy and University of Kansas Pediatrics at KU Medical Center. Since the program was founded, it has provided more than 1 million books to children in need and has expanded via partnerships with more than 50 health care clinics in the Kansas City area. The group’s mission is to “give young children the foundation they need in order to succeed by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.”
