Screenland Crossroads Brunch Series and Other Weekend Possibilities

Channel your inner rebel at the Screenland Crossroads’ Brunch Series. This Sunday at 12 p.m., it’s (appropriately) “The Breakfast Club”. Tickets are $18 and include brunch. Next month, on May 22, it’s “Stand By Me”.
Happy Earth Day. Powell Gardens (1609 NW US Highway 50, Kingsville, Missouri) has free admission today. Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. they’ll teach you how to make a pirate ship from recycled corks. They’re open until 5 tonight.
Coloring is good for the soul. The Chalk Walk is this weekend at The Concourse Park (200 S Benton Boulevard) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The 9th annual Chalk Walk in the Historic Northeast will feature coffee from Eleos Coffee and tamales from Tamale Kitchen.
Kansas Craft Beer Week concludes this weekend, so you should send it out with some fanfare. Red Crow Brewing Company (20561 S Lone Elm Road, Spring Hill, Kansas) will have limited edition pint glasses today, specials on pints, and a visit from the Weiner Wagon from 4 to 8 p.m. Keep an eye out for Sandy the Shandy — if it’s on tap, it’s right for the kind of weather we’re having right now.
Looking for a road trip? The Taste of Emporia is set for Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium (111 East 6th Avenue, Emporia, Kansas). It’s small bites and a collection of Kansas wineries and breweries (Hopping Gnome, Radius Brewing Company, and Free State Brewing Company, among them). Tickets are $40.
Let the Bard know you’re thinking of him. There’s a ShakesBEER Birthday Bash, a benefit for Camp Shakespeare, at the Uptown Arts Bar (3611 Broadway) from 6 to 9 p.m. The event put on by the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival will have Shakespearoke, live music, and cake. Tickets range from $10 (standing room) to $150 (front table for two).
The Santa Fe Brewing Company hosts a Lip Sync Battle at The Tank Room (1813 Grand Boulevard). It’s 7 p.m. on Sunday, and you should bring your best fake song moves.
