Rooftop Beer Yoga, a Butterfly Release Happy Hour, and Other Weekend Possibilities 

Why not both? – HopCat, probably. HopCat, ‘KC’s craft beer HQ’ (401 Westport Rd.), is loosening up Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with Rooftop Beer Yoga, hosted by certified yoga instructor Rachel Collins. Follow the hour-long BYOM (bring your own mat) session with ice-cold pours of Boulevard Brewing Co.’s new Easy Sport Ale. Tickets are $15 for those 21 and older  and there are no walk-ins allowed, so buy your tickets online through Friday..

Don’t sleep in too late on Saturday morning. Be up early to catch the Brookside Farmers’ Market’s annual Tomato Festival (63rd St. and Wornall) — a full day of fun, games, and of course, the season’s fresh fruit. Take a pic in the tomato photo booth, try your hand in ‘toss the tomato,’ or cast your vote for the ugliest, prettiest, and weirdest tomatoes. Put your green thumb to a good cause Saturday and help The Urban Farming Guys (3704 E. 12th St.) around town with anything from gardening to painting and construction — all in the name of promoting sustainable community living where nutritious and affordable food is difficult to access. Arrive by 9 a.m. for introductions and instruction. The day wraps up at 12:30 p.m.

Also away from the table this weekend, the Shawnee Town farmstead (11501 W. 57th St. in Shawnee) is hosting a Composting Basics Class. The Shawnee Town Museum and Parks and Rec event, running 10 to 11 a.m., aims to teach what materials are needed to start your own composting project and its benefits. Class fee is $10 — no garden required!

The Monarch Bar (4808 Roanoke Parkway, KCMO) is pairing up with The Powell Gardens to host a one-of-a-kind Friday night happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. that will feature the release of live monarch butterflies. Monarch Butterfly Social and Release attendees can look forward to specialty cocktail menu items inspired by the monarch’s migratory pattern, a premium butterfly-themed cocktail, the live release, and a quick lesson on the fluttery friends. Tickets are $35.

The American Wine Society Kansas City Chapter is gathering at Sylvester Powell Community Center (6200 Martway St. in Mission, Kansas) on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. to learn about  Sauvignon Blanc. Attendees will both taste wines and uncover how they are made. Tickets are $10. Chapter membership is not required to attend. 

Wrap up the weekend in the wine world with Amigoni Urban Winery’s Wine and Chocolate Pairing with Panache Chocolatier, this Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Amigoni’s tasting room (1505 Genessee Street, #100 in the Stockyards District). Amigoni’s winemakers and Panache’s team will lead guests through five wines paired perfectly with a flight of fine chocolates. Tickets are $50.
