Doug Peterson has worked at the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Missouri for over 25 years. He started his career as a soil scientist and is currently a state soil health conservationist. He teaches residents and farmers from around Missouri about soil health and how soil health impacts virtually all natural resources.
Peterson attended Missouri Western State University and graduated in 1986 with a B.S. in agriculture. His majors were economics and agronomy.
He operates a cow and calf operation with his father Steve and has been married to his wife Diane for 20 years. They have three children.
This profile was filmed at a soil conservation event in Oak Grove, Mo., where he was giving a demonstration with a rain simulator about the trouble with rainwater runoff.
