Cherry Pit Collective Open House & Other Weekend Possibilities

Holiday shopping, a bit of ice cream, and maybe a new bike to ride home. The Cherry Pit Collective (604 E 31st Street) is holding an Open House with local makers from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday. You can find jewelry, soap, paper goods, and locally made nuts, cookies, and coffee.

Long for the days of your middle school computer class, but don’t want to leave behind the trappings of adulthood? Bier Station (120 E Gregory Boulevard) has you covered with the release of Oregon Trail — its collaboration beer with Nebraska Brewing Company. The rustic amber ale debuts from 4 to 7 p.m. today during Happy Hour.

Pawns and Pints (221 Southwest Boulevard), a new board game space, has opened in the Crossroads. The pawns and pieces and dice are ready, while the pints are in the works. They’re not yet serving beer, but they do have non alcoholic drinks to fuel your game night.

Get your bun on with Bun Bros. They’re popping up with pork or vegan steamed buns inside the 2016 Main space from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight for First Friday. Torn Label Brewing Company (1708 Campbell Street) is hosting a beer and cheese pairing with Krokstrom Klubb. A single plate is $5 (three for $12), and the pairings will start being served at 5 p.m.

Fill a bowl for yourself and someone else. Empty Bowls is a fundraiser tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at ArtsTech (1522 Holmes) that benefits Harvesters. Artist LeRoy Grubbs has made 600 ceramic bowls that you can fill at the event with soup from Michael Smith’s, Nara, or BB’s Lawnside BBQ. You can grab a brew from Kansas City Bier Co. or Boulevard Brewing Co., too. Tickets are available at the door for $30.

Pay homage to Winston Churchill with a night at the Pendergast Club above the Majestic Restaurant (931 Broadway Boulevard) on Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. Learn about Churchill’s life and love of good food and drink with Lee Pollock, the executive director of The Churchill Centre. Tickets are $50 and include two drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a copy of Hero of the Empire.

Tapped arrives at the Sprint Center (1407 Grand) for two sessions: 1 to 4 p.m. (VIP entry at noon), and 6 to 9 p.m. (VIP at 5 p.m.). The traveling beer festival pours more than 100 beers (Lazy Magnolia, Elysian and Crane among them), ciders and wine, with indoor yard games from Top Golf serving as entertainment. See how cider is made close up and pitch in to help with the process. Serendipity Farm & Orchard (12780 Jantzen Lane, Platte City, Missouri) hosts a customer appreciation day Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They’ll be serving venison chili and invite folks to come learn how an apple becomes cider.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (4525 Oak Street) hosts a Dia de los Muertos celebration on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They’ll have paper mache skulls on display, poetry readings, artist demonstrations, live music, and hot chocolate and tamales. It’s free.
