Find some local eats and treats this weekend courtesy of a series of pop-up shops featuring local makers. Handmade in KC! is a local artist sale, including Lyndsey’s Sugar Shop, at the NEAT Artist Studio from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Handmade Holidays (11545 Ash St., Leawood, Kansas) on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. will feature cocktails from Union Horse Distillery and Cartwheel Jess. Tyler Kingston Wood + Supply Co. (2601 Madison Ave.) will have coffee from Meta Coffee Roasters for a Small Business Saturday celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Crane Brewing Company’s taproom opens today in Raytown. They’ll be serving flights for the first time in the new spot that has a 26-foot-bar and some brewery-only releases. [For more details, read the story on “Flatland” here.]
Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar (4814 Roanoke Parkway) has some new drink options, think bloody mary’s and mimosas, on its brunch menu that debuted last weekend. The showstopper is The Commodore. It weighs in at $25 and comes garnished with peel and eat shrimp, crab legs, oysters, caviar, an olive and a lemon wedge. Brunch is Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It pays to drink early, at least this Friday. The Stockyards Brewing Co. (1600 Genessee St., Suite 100) is hosting a Black Friday sale. The first 10 beers they sell will be $1 and the next 10 brews sold will be $2. The prices goes up by a $1 for every 10 beers sold. They open at 12 p.m.
The Ruins Pub (1715 Main St.) has a special tapping of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout at 6 p.m tonight. You can delve into the 2015 and 2016 release, as well as the barley wine, Halia, and Gillian, version from this year. They’ve got a pair of food pairings on special: pan-seared scallops, as well as a stout-braised short ribs over celery root and potato mash.
The best way to get through the holidays is sometimes a glass or bottle of wine. Toast or escape your family at Underdog Wine Co., which opened its second location at 2984 Gillham Road in Union Hill this week.
POUR Coffeehouse (11120 S Lone Elm Road, Olathe, Kansas) is hosting a waffle pop-up with The Waffle Iron on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The traveling waffle experience out of Lawrence, Kansas has lately been playing with spiced pumpkin and a raspberry topping on their buttermilk waffles.
