Late Night Doughnuts & Other Weekend Possibilities

The world needs more ways to get doughnuts into your system. Doughnut Lounge (4147 Pennsylvania Ave.) has two new opportunities for you to make that happen. Their food truck hit the road recently, and they also launched a late-night doughnut menu this week. The Westport coffee, bar, and doughnut shop is now serving donuts from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Check out the NoDut pictured above — their name for savory creations. While you’re there, also keen an eye out for the DL39. Get the rye doughnut (wheat is the other option), then let them pile on Q39’s burnt ends, a fried egg, bacon, spinach, avocado, corn salsa and hollandaise.

The Strawberry Hill Museum (720 N. Fourth St., Kansas City, Kansas) is hosting a night tour from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight. The museum will be lit by Victorian oil lamps and Christmas lights. They’ll also be serving dessert and wine. Tickets are $25 and advance reservations are required.

Missouri Coffee & Tea Week comes to a close today. You can still get discounts at Parisi and Parkville Coffee (just mention that it’s coffee and tea week). Also, One More Cup is selling frozen biscuits starting today and Thou Mayest has a series of seasonal cocktails (consider the Churchill’s Breakfast: Rye, cold brew, maple syrup and smoked cinnamon) and happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m.

You’ve definitely never been to a fashion show like this. Unpoppable: A Balloon Fashion Show is from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. tomorrow at 2016 Main. They’ll have cocktails and donuts from Doughnut Lounge, along with models in balloon creations from Molly Balloons. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Underdog Wine is celebrating its first anniversary in Union Hill at 2984 Gillham Road from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. It is holding a free tasting of six different sparkling wines and pairing them with mini French macarons.

Remember, one must always Sip and Shop responsibly. The annual holiday Sip and Shop is being held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Belvoir Winery and Vineyard (1325 Odd Fellows Road, Liberty, Missouri). There are wine tastings, food from the Mudhole BBQ truck and local craft vendors (everything from painted signs to custom furniture to beard oils to chocolate hot sauce).

After closing earlier this fall for a menu retool, Chik n Pie (1111 Main St., Suite 155) has reopened downtown. They do broasted chicken (original and spicy), pizza, fries, burgers and soft serve ice cream. The new concept is from Todd Johns and Todd Johnson, the owners of nearby Plowboys BBQ.

The Brookside Farmers Market continues with the Brookside Winter Market. The indoor market is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Brookside campus of Research Medical Center (6675 Holmes Road). Maru Sushi and Grill (5621 W. 135th St., Suite 2620, Overland Park, Kansas) has opened in the Prairiefire development. Maru is in what was previously the Wasabi Sushi Bar. They serve sushi, alongside tempura (including rocket tempura: asparagus wrapped in cream cheese), udon noodles, and misoyaki chicken (chicken marinated in miso dressing). Maru is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for dinner from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.
