The Abbott Promises Luxury Event Space in East Crossroads

The Abbott, the newest event space coming to the East Crossroads, is a family affair, thus the name.
Matt Abbott of Abbott Properties and his wife Emily are behind the $3 million project, which is converting a former industrial building at 1901 Cherry St. into what’s being described as a large, luxury event venue.
“I’m trying to bring a California, Sonoma feel that can go casual or luxury,” said Emily Abbott, the designer for the project.
The 15,000 square-foot venue which is scheduled to open April 1 will be able to accommodate 500 seated guests or up to 1,100 if standing. Its features include two bar and lounge areas, a foyer, cloak room and rooftop deck with fire tables and downtown skyline views.
The Abbott will be located in a former industrial building at 19th and Cherry streets.
Emily said The Abbott will be industrial chic, with features of the former building, including its concrete floors and vaulted ceiling combined with five chandeliers, brushed gold fixtures and marble-top bars. Glass garage-style doors will allow the ballroom to open onto an outdoor terrace.
“We’re meshing the luxury high-end feeling with this more industrial feel,” she said.
The space includes a catering kitchen as well, and is expected to be a big hit for large gatherings such as wedding receptions and corporate events. Platinum KC is partnering with the Abbots to provide audio-visual services.
The developers are averaging 20 inquiries a day even though the facility won’t open until spring.
“The most popular use is weddings,” Emily said, “although we can do anything.”
