New York Fashion Week wraps up today, and Anna Wintour will need to peer at something else from behind her giant sunglasses. Perhaps she could make a stop at KC's own Fashion Week, kicking off this weekend. (Photo: Diane Bondareff | AP)

Sound Smart This Weekend

THE REARVIEW:

We can’t wrap up the week without talking about clocks and presidential debates.

In summation, 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed is transferring schools and accepting his White House invitation, and the fact the hashtag #hotdebateguy trended on Twitter during the Republican face-off and was a news story afterward may be all that we need to say about those things.

WHAT WE’RE FORWARDING:

Friends-barista Gunther answering fan questions about the gone-but-not-forgotten TV show on Buzzfeed. Because a modern-day Gunther sorta looks like Tim Gunn, and that’s a parallel universe in which we will live happily.

Find your locally-designed and -printed tees representing the favorite things about your favorite city (shuttlecocks abound). Wear one tonight if your Chiefs jersey is dirty.

THE FORWARD VIEW:

We’ve been geeking out over at Techweek for the last few days, so it’s time to add some style to our substance. KC Fashion Week kicks off this weekend by kicking tech out of Union Station. Then there’s American Royal’s World Series of Barbecue, trying out its new digs at Arrowhead Stadium. The only downside is that KC Beer Fest is going on simultaneously at the Power & Light District, and we just can’t be everywhere at once.

Ed’s Note: After today, Sound Smart is moving its weekly wrap-up to Fridays. Look for our new preview of local events, The Weekender, by Flatland contributor Hampton Stevens, to move into this Thursday spot. Sound Smart regrets challenging him to an arm wrestling match for the rights.

North Korea claimed this week that it successfully exploded a hydrogen bomb, a test which came in the run-up to President Kim Jong Un’s 33rd birthday. According to an extensive story at Foreign Policy, India is building a top secret facility to produce nuclear weapons. Which means, at the very least, India is going to need a new definition of the phrase “top secret”. In other apocalyptic weapons news, the U.S. is “considering a response” to an Iranian ballistic missile test. Apparently, we’re going…
