McCownGordon Purchases Downtown Building for New Headquarters, Investing $10.5 Million to Renovate

McCownGordon Construction has purchased a three-story building at 850 Main St. and plans to spend $10.5 million renovating it as its new headquarters.
The 45,000 square-foot building had been owned by the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and was occupied by Catholic Charities
It was part of a 2010 acquisition of former Aquila properties by the diocese that included the historic New York Life building next door at 20 W. Ninth St. and a 565-space garage.

McCownGordon is currently located in a building at 422 Admiral Blvd. that it purchased in 2004. The firm has outgrown that space, according to Sara Prem, director of marketing.
Helix Architecture + Design has been hired to design what’s being described as a “transformative” renovation project that will result in an open, modern concept design.
Amenities will include comprehensive technology, fitness center, expanded conference and collaboration spaces, and a rooftop patio. The building also is located near a streetcar stop.
“This move reinforces our desire to stay engaged and enhance the downtown community,” Prem said in a statement. “McCownGordon is committed to downtown Kansas City.”
The company expects to move into its new space in Fall 2018.
