When you think of country music, does Kansas City come to mind? How about the Midwest?
If it did, that’s probably because you’re plugged into country music’s roots in the area. Kansas City PBS is looking for your questions about country music’s evolution, its style, and local history ahead of Ken Burns’ “Country Music” documentary, which airs in September.
The documentary will chronicle the history of what PBS calls a “uniquely American” art form. “From southern Appalachia’s songs of struggle, heartbreak and faith to the rollicking western swing of Texas, from California honky tonks to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry,” PBS adds, “we will follow the evolution of country music over the course of the twentieth century, as it eventually emerged to become America’s music.”
