Waffle Iron Pop-Up & Other Weekend Possibilities

Waffling on where to go for breakfast? How about the Waffle Iron pop-up at Hammerhand Coffee (22 N. Main St., Liberty, Missouri). It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. If you head over on Saturday, you can also catch the grand opening of Anna Marie’s Teas (7 W. Franklin St.). The Liberty tea shop has a new location on Liberty Square, and is celebrating from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Ask for a sample of their blackberry mint, it’s a proper cup.

Really want to lean into waffles? The Waffler food truck is making maple bacon meggos from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 7099 Wornall Road.

Leinenkugel’s KC (1323 Walnut St.) has Fish Fry Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. It’s unlimited fried fish and an Old Fashioned or draft beer. And if you’re feeling festive, they serve beer in steins.

You can get gelato in the West Bottoms to fuel your antiquing. Dellario Gelato will be at Bottoms Up Antique Market (1300 W. 13th St) starting at 11 a.m. today. They’ll also be serving barbecue if you’re looking for lunch.

Football Sunday has been a thing for a while now. I think it’s time we start a new weekend tradition with wine and cheese Sunday. Amigoni Vineyards and Urban Winery (1505 Genessee St.) is hosting Green Dirt Farm for a wine and cheese pairing from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. You get to sample five wines and cheeses, and learn about the cheesemaking and winemaking worlds. Tickets are $50.

The Roxy Bar (7230 W. 75th St., Overland Park, Kansas) is closing at the end of the month. The start of their farewell begins with a show by Four Fried Chickens And A Coke at 4 p.m. Saturday.

HopCat (401 Westport Road) has opened in Westport. They’ve got a rooftop patio, a massive beer list with 100 taps, and the unfortunately named “Crack Fries,” which are beer-battered and dusted with a black pepper seasoning.

Discover your inner BBQ ability with the Best of the BBQ Queens class at a Thyme for Everything (229B SE Main St., Lee’s Summit, Missouri) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The class with Karen Adler and Judith Fertig includes a copy of their “BBQ Bash” cookbook, as well as grilled vegetables, oven-baked herb risotto and a creole coffee-rubbed tenderloin. The class is $65.

Slow Food Kansas City is hosting a brunch at Harvey’s in Union Station. This one is comparable to a Vegas spread with prime rib, sugar-glazed ham, fried chicken, Belgian waffles (told you it was a waffle weekend), peel-and-eat shrimp, cinnamon rolls and made-to-order omelets. Tickets, which also include a pass to the Pompeii exhibit, are $65 for non-members and $55 for members.
