Loews Opens Rooftop Bar, Restaurant Begins Dinner Service Next Week

The new Loews convention hotel has opened an outdoor bar and lounge called Horsefeather Social with dramatic views of the Kauffman Center and Bartle Hall Sky Stations, and socially-distant seating for 56 people.

The Horsefeather space, which opened in mid-July, is located on an outdoor deck at the seventh floor of the hotel that also includes an event lawn. It can be reached by elevator from the garage or lobby, or a staircase leading from the lobby.

Loews also is planning to open its showcase lobby restaurant, The Stillwell, next Tuesday.

It offers panoramic views of the downtown skyline and the hotel recently announced Patrick LeBeau, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York, will be its chef de cuisine.

LeBeau was chef at restaurants in the Northeast, and before arriving here was chef de cuisine at the NoMl restaurant in Chicago.

Stillwell, the Loews lobby restaurant, is scheduled to open next Tuesday.

His duties will include overseeing the restaurant, lobby bar and the hotel’s grab-and-go bakery, Red Wheat Baking Co. as well as Horsefeather Social.

The Stillwell restaurant will open at first for dinners only Tuesday through Saturday from 5- to 10 p.m. The hours of Horsefeather are Thursday through Saturday, 5- to 10 p.m.

Horsefeather Social features handcrafted cocktails including the Horsefeather, which features J. Rieger Whisky, angostura, bitters, ginger beer and lemon, and a Sweet Heat Margarita with Patron Silver Tequila, strawberry and jalapeno.

A full line of wines, beers and spirits also are available.

The Horsefeather Social accommodates socially-distant seating for 56 patrons.

The bar food menu includes oysters, pulled pork tacos, garlic shrimp flatbread and smoked brisket sliders.

As has been the case since the 800-room Loews had to shifts its opening from April to June 1, the Covid-19 pandemic has upset the timetable for opening its restaurant and bar areas. Only the lobby Bar Stillwell was opened when the hotel started receiving guests.

All the dining and drinking facilities are following city public health regulations for socially-distant seating. Masks are required upon entering the hotel until being seated.
