Food Truck Frenzy & Other Weekend Possibilities

It’s a Food Truck Frenzy. The city of Lenexa is hosting a food truck extravaganza from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Lenexa City Center (southeast corner of 87th Street Parkway and Renner Boulevard). It’s a dozen trucks offering up everything from meatballs to waffles to Asian fare.

The Colorado imports keep coming. Larkburger (13611 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas) — like Boulder-based Pizzeria Locale before it — has opened its first outpost outside of the Centennial State with a new location in Overland Park. The burger joint offers plenty of protein options (turkey, beef, tuna, chicken or portabella mushroom), toppings (truffle aioli, crispy jalapenos or red onion), and they serve gluten-free buns. As for sides, they’ve got truffle fries and edamame.

Perhaps you’d like a little entertainment with your fruits and vegetables. The City Market Busker Festival (20 E. 5th St.) is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Check out jugglers and fire twirlers and folks on stilts, while keeping an eye out for strawberries. They’re delicious right now.

You could call it field to stage. Shelf Life Presents Cotton from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at The Brick (1727 McGee St.). The show is a series of stories inspired by the fabric or a moment that somehow involved cotton. Tickets are $10.

The 30th annual Sugar Creek Slavic Festival is tonight and tomorrow at the Mike Onka Memorial Building grounds (11520 E. Putnam St., Sugar Creek, Missouri). There’s a kielbasa eating contest, a host of Slavic cuisine (cabbage rolls, kolaches, and povitica) and traditional dance performances. Admission is $4 for adults and free for children under 12 years old.

KC Wineworks (1829 McGee St.) is slinging Rosé All Day from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. In case you didn’t know, Saturday is National Rosé Day and KC Wineworks will have its Chambourcin rosé available, along with frosé (frozen rosé).

Some weekends should be bottomless mimosas weekends. Forks in the Road Brunch, an event to benefit Episcopal Community Services, is from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday at Grand Street (4740 Grand Ave.). Tickets are $45 and include a brunch buffet, as well as bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. VIP tickets, for $15 more, are available and include early entry at 11 a.m.
