Patio Party for Karbon & Other Weekend Possibilities

There’s a patio party from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Sturgis Materials  (550 South Packard St.) to raise funds for chef Rachel Rinas, who is opening Karbon in Parlor KC. The party comes with a unique twist: Jarocho’s Carlos Falcon will be cooking with meat, while the Local Pig’s Alex Pope will be using seafood for the dinner. Dinner ($65), includes three drink tickets.

Chow Down Downtown is set from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in Downtown Overland Park. Eat and drink you way across Overland Park with stops at Papa Keno’s, Ambrosia Cafe, Brew Lab, and The Upper Crust. A passport ($25) gets you food and drink samples and a portion of proceeds go to No Kid Hungry Kansas City.

Discover the world of urban farming with Cultivate Kansas City’s Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The self-guided tour lets you visit more than 20 area farms and gardens.

From 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, there’s also a farm crawl ($30) with three stops. The Food Forest will host Howard’s & Crane Brewing Co., Cultivate’s Westport Commons farm at Plexpod with The Sundry and Restless Spirits Distilling, and the Juniper Gardens Training Farm with Betty Rae’s and S.D. Strong Distilling. The crawl is a separate ticket, but includes access to the farms and gardens tour.

Expand your cocktail horizons. It’s Negroni Week, presented by Imbibe Magazine and Campari, at The Monarch Bar (4808 Roanoke Parkway) through this Saturday. A Negroni is a classic cocktail typically made with gin, vermouth and Campari; but you’ll find all manners of riffs on the drink around Kansas City. The Monarch will donate a portion of sales to No Kid Hungry. Start there, and then drink your way around town: Swordfish Tom’s, SOT, Freshwater and Il Lazzarone are just some of the bars and restaurants participating.

The ribeye is back in the building. The reinvented Golden Ox (1600 Genessee St.) reopens Friday for dinner. The iconic steakhouse closed in December 2014 after 65 years of operation in the West Bottoms. The space was split in half between Stockyards Brewing and, now, a new take on the classic eatery from Voltaire owners Wes Gartner and Jill Myers.

Brewery Emperial (1829 Oak St.) hosts a Pop Up for Pups from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The pop-up marketplace in the outdoor beer garden will benefit KC Pet Project.

If you’re not busy doing karate in the garage, Tapcade (1701 McGee St., Suite 200) is screening “Step Brothers,” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Your ticket ($12) includes a full pour of one of two beers from a collaboration brew featuring hop dust from Omaha’s Zipline Brewing and Boulevard Brewing Company.

Corvino (1830 Walnut Ave.) is now open from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. And they’ve added a whole chicken dinner. You can get that chicken roasted or fried (you’re going to get it fried), and prepare yourself for its side of hot sauce.

When tacos battle, you win. Taco Wars is Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Replay Lounge (946 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, Kansas). There will be DJs spinning as 715 Restaurant, Port Fonda, Lawrence Beer Company, La Parrilla, and Pop Top Tacos all vie for the taco title. A $10 cover gets you a taco from each spot.
