Boulevardia & Other Weekend Possibilities

June 16, 2017  |    |  3 min read

The Blip Summer Open House (1101 Mulberry St.) is a little bit coffee and a little bit craft show. Pick up a cup of joe or some jewelry, and watch the pretty motorcycles — part of Blip’s culture — roll into the West Bottoms tonight from 7 to 10 p.m.

While you’re there, you can pop by Boulevardia. The beer, music and food festival hosted by the Boulevard Brewing Company is tonight and tomorrow. Dig in to SLAPS BBQ or Taste of Brazil, and keep an eye out for the festival release: a sparkling ale collaboration from Boulevard and Piney River Brewing. Admission is $20 per day.

Dig into Filipino cuisine at the Fiesta Filipina 2017. The two-day fest is from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Filipino Cultural Center (9810 W. 79th St., Overland Park, Kansas). There will also be live music and traditional dancing.

Grab the Junior Mints and head to the Northland. The Village at Briarcliff (4151 N. Mulberry Drive) is hosting an outdoor movie night at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. They’ll be showing “The Jungle Book” and it’s BYOSALC (bring your own snacks and lawn chair).

Three Words: Beer and Dessert. Cinder Block Brewery (110 E. 18th Ave., North Kansas City, Missouri) is hosting a sweets and brew pairing from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight. Get a flight of three desserts from Lucky Cakes and the recommended beer pairings for $12. Happy adulting.

Forget the pub crawl, it’s time for a food crawl. Chow Down Downtown is from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Overland Park. A $25 passport gives you a series of small bites or samples at more than a dozen OP bars and restaurants, including The Upper Crust and Wyldewood Cellars Winery (it’s all about booze and dessert this weekend). The check-in is at The Other Place (7324 W. 80th St.).

Juneteenth KC is from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at 18th and Vine. The free festival includes live gospel performances, a kids’ zone (12 to 5 p.m.), and a coloring station from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

The Kearney Culinary Academy (105 S. Jefferson St., Kearney, Missouri) is hosting a grand opening class with chef Debbie Gold (who is back at the newly reopened The American Restaurant, now a private dining and event space) from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $85 for the five-course class (with four wine pairings) that includes sweet corn risotto, rack of lamb and salmon. If the Saturday class sells out, there’s also a Sunday sushi session ($75, 3 p.m.) with Sakae Sushi’s Peter Hoang.
