Cheese Slipper Saturday & Other Weekend Possibilities

See if the cheese slipper fits as Cheese Slipper Night has returned to Fervere (1702 Summit St.). The Saturday summer special (the doors open at 6 p.m., but the line typically starts before then) is warm ciabatta out of the oven topped with all manners of cheese, seasonal vegetables and an occasional egg.

Wine and chocolate were likely the original peanut butter and jelly. Discover a host of new possibilities at Andre’s Chocolates and Confiserie Suisse (5018 Main St.). The chocolate shop and bakery is offering chocolate and wine flights ($20 for a trio of wines, $25 for the pairings) on its patio or at the wine bar in June.

The 2018 Excelsior Springs Wine Festival is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Sample wines, listen to live music and check out the craft vendors and food demonstrations in Excelsior Spring’s East Valley Park. The 12th annual outdoor festival is meant to showcase Missouri wines and includes Vox Vineyards, Adam Puchta Winery and Dubious Claims Brewing Company (a new Excelsior Springs microbrewery). Admission is $5, while the wine sampling is $25.

The Wine Walk on Delaware is back. The wine tasting and walk along the shops on Delaware Street in the River Market features live music and is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets ($20) are available in advance or on the day of the event.

Limitless Brewing is in the process of trying to open a brewery in Lenexa, Kansas. And the brewery-in-the-works is hosting a meet-and-greet on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at 8113 Overland Park Drive in Overland Park, Kansas. It’ll be serving chicken and ice cream, but attendees are asked to bring sides. Limitless Brewing will also be collecting school supplies and, of course, offering up its beer for tasting (a blonde ale with raspberry, a Saison brett sour, a Hefeweizen, and a Russian Imperial Stout named Don’t Be Afraid of the Circus).

The Parkville Farmers Market (parking lot of English Landing Park, Parkville, Missouri) is now open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and from 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Check out the Hearth Bread Co. which typically brings croissants, cinnamon rolls and breads from a wood-fired oven, alongside produce from New Roots for Refugees and honey from The Santa Fe Trail Honey Farm.

Discover the cuisine of Australia at Banksia (105 W. Ninth St.), a new bakery and cafe, which opened in the former Sasha’s Bakery spot. You can get traditional Australian desserts (like pavlova, a meringue topped with clotted cream and fruit; a caramel slice; or an iced vovo, a biscuit topped with icing, coconut and jam) or even a Kangaroo sausage roll, alongside bread baked in house (including gluten-free loaves), cinnamon rolls and macarons.

Before it’s one thousand degrees outside, enjoy the patio tucked off the back corner of the bakehouse. It’s open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
