Alamo’s Cereal Party & Other Weekend Possibilities

Tomorrow, you can go back in time at the Shoal Creek Living History Museum in Hodge Park (7000 Northeast Barry Road). Walk among reenactors in the village, see bison, and discover what life was like in the 19th century during the first Saturday celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Brookside has a new juice bar. Simple Science Juices has opened its third area location at 112 W 63rd Street. The shop serves cold-pressed juices, grab ‘n’ go meals (spaghetti squash to sweet chili hummus), smoothies, and snacks (protein balls).

Stockyards Brewing Company (1600 Genessee Street, No. 100) is holding an open house today and tomorrow. There’s a firkin tapping at 4:30 p.m. today, live music both days, and brewery tours on the hour between 1 and 5 p.m. Saturday. Keep an eye out for the Brunch Stout — it’s pleasantly filling with coffee and chocolate notes.

Love cereal? Darn right, you do. The Alamo Drafthouse is hosting a Cereal Party with a showing of Iron Giant on Saturday at noon. Unlike that one bowl at home, this is unlimited breakfast cereal combined with a quirky animated picture about an unlikely friendship between a boy and a 50-foot-tall robot. Tickets are $12.

The Boulevard Brewing Co. has opened its new Visitors’ Center and Beer Hall (2534 Madison Avenue). The Beer Hall on the second floor is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The new tasting room has 24 taps. Good luck.

The Big Picnic is here. Grab your blanket and head over to the lawn of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. They’ll have lawn games and food trucks, as well as giant puppets and live music.
